Back to the boat.

I have picked up RGB LED lighting. that will get installed here shortly. pulling the drive to service the bellows and give the drive a fresh coat of POR15 paint.

Still have not picked up the port lights, stainless chains, water tank, or replacement speaker. those are coming

Admiral stated that has to wait. Will be adding a second Sony remote to the stereo along with a simple Ipod Bluetooth adapter.

spent a few hours on the boat this evening planning and laying out the lights. coming up with an idea on mouting to the various surfaces (wood, vinyl, gel coat, rough fiberglass, carpet, etc)

looking at pulling the strips into a pvc or acrylic tube, mounting with screw mount zip ties or p-clips because I do not believe the self adhesive strip will secure it for long.

Cut my time outside short as night fell, everything was getting wet with dew.

so I cam in, ordered the drive bellows, a stainless anchor chain and now to spend time with the Admiral.

Update on LED's. going to mount to stainless U-channel or angle with the self-adhesive strip, then mount the strip with screws

Half way thru the LED instal.....

I know, need pics.....

took boat out this past weekend and had a blast. Sunday came and I decided to pull the drive for the bellows service and to paint the drive. good thing I did, the gearbox is leaking oil out the input seal.

So the drive is getting re-sealed and repainted, will finish running wiring for the LED's either tonight or tomorrow.

So last night I'm pulling wiring from one gunwale to the transom over to the other gunwale for the LED lights.

I noticed the bilge blower hoses have a sagging loop in them. One of the inlet hoses has a bit of a kink in it as well. All the rain we had over the past week had filled up the discharge side of the blower hoses, and there was enough flex to fill it with water.

New blower on order last night along with a 290DP seal kit, new water connection, new prop nut, new speakers.....

for the past week straigh, been getting packages.

seal kit
new bellows
new pins
new reverse interlock
new trim gear sector
new speakers for the boat
new mity vac 8500 because I was stupid and loaned out my last one.
POR15 and their hard nose paint for the drive.

The POR15 Hardnose doesnt flow decently out of the sprayer even with their thinner. looks like it was sprayed with a bug sprayer. however the paint is hard as a rock.

started the reseal project. been delayed due to the wedding anniversary, having to repair the HVAC air handler, and the garage door opener died yesterday.

so back to the drive - ran into the first issue. volvo's upper gear box washer 832675 has a huge groove worn in it from the input shaft seal. found one on ebay from a vendor here in Bradenton, hoping to pick up tomorrow. why isnt this hardened. going to see about making it out of 17-4PH1150 tomorrow at work as well.

still need to find someone with stock on Amsoil gear lube. about 1 pint short. calling around in the morning.

ot the outdrive back together this weekend. pressure tested it, every thing is perfect...... then murphy reared his ugly head.

missing a hand full of parts from the transom shield. tore the whole garage apart.

well, at least the garage is clean.

Update. I do NOT recommend the paint products from POR15 any more. After having the out-drive completely disassembled, then bead blasting the exterior surfaces down to raw metal. I applied POR15 to all out-drive components. thinning it with their supplied solvent and spraying with a preval sprayer.

I then coated with their hardnose 2-part paint.

The first weekend out, some of the paint came off the skeg area. I contacted the customer service department. their first conclusion was I had contaminated the surface somehow with acetone. I re-coated the lower portion of the skeg.

went out a few weekends since the drive went back together, then I noticed the paint starting to come loose again. Last weekend took the boat out and the paint is coming off in sheets. the largest sheet so far was 13" long and 7" wide

the POR15 did not adhere to the aluminum. I have spent about 4 hours to date with their customer service department. they do not know what could have gone wrong and they will not proceed any further. What used to be a bulletproof product that I happily endorsed having used it for many many projects that you had to grind to remove is now a product that I can not in good faith recommend to anyone.

Thought I would update this post thread. January, decided to pull the SBC, originally to build a 383..... then I started this thread http://forums.iboats.com/forum/engi...rds/10101672-bbc-build-don-t-tell-the-admiral. decided to go big or go home. Boat getting Big Block power. still not sure on a 468 or 496. however goal is over 450 hp.

Boat got a new trailer late last year. new to me anyway. now the fresh and shiny trailer means I need to paint the boat. Paint and teak will come next.

Well, back to the boat. in the middle of the motor build http://forums.iboats.com/forum/engin...ll-the-admiral I am also working on the interior

prior owner had the interior re-done just before i bought the boat. used regular staples and never redid the wood. all the staples are rusted and making a mess, and the orginal 30 year old wood had delaminated....

so, fire up the saws, routers, etc.

after a few months away from the boat doing other honey-doo stuff...... back to the interior on the boat so I can get the motor in.

side consoles are done, upper filler panels are done. working on the main panels so I can work on the upholstered stripes. going to be a bit softer in the radius and a bit less angle on the stripe

introduced my buddy building a cobra replica who needs custom interior work to my "upholstery guy" so I am now looking at other samples too.... cuddy cabin will be repopped later this year.

its a wee bit warm out there......transom shield going back together....just bought the worlds smallest most expensive bushing in the world to finish it......pictures and film at 11

need to rebuild the reverse catch. the pawls have a bit of wear. welding them up.

side panels up front ready for encasement in CSM....instead of screws, using t-nuts and machine screws

softening the corners and angles on the interior stripes.

Going to look real good when done, nice work.

Probably splash for first time when we are putting ours up for the winter.
