hmmm not sure I understand where the "coffin box" is. Do you have a pic that shows it realative to everything else?

What Im calling the coffinbox is the section of the lower stringers the run along side the fuel tank, encapsulating it in. They run from the transom thru the engine compartment at about 6" tall, then step up to 18" between the firewall and cabin wall bulkhead, they also serve as a bulkhead to help support the aft sleeper.

So I cut the access holes in the lower stringers to get access to the outer stringers where they but the cabin wall bulkhead to sister them in for a full run from midship to transom.

this is the tunnel where the tank goes....

Aw, you skipped the part with the C-clamp and chainfall to get it into the boat :)

Another transom twice as strong as original equipment! Looking good.

That was the plan GW, but while i was positioning it to attach chains to it, I just lifted it over the rear cap, and let it fall in hehe...

I picked up an assortment of 12 threaded rod, and washers/hex nuts in 1/4, 5/16, and 3/8, and a bunch of straight 2/4's for the clamping. I got the sizes I think i need to use the existing holes from the trim tabs, swim platform bolts, and transducer holes, ext.

What are you guys using to coat the rods so they come out after the epoxy cures?..if anything.

transducer holes

swim platform holes

trim tab holes

Ill need to make a few sacrificial holes where needed.

I've read lot's of threads where plain ole vaseline works really well. Use lots of it!!!!

I had originally planned to use non-stick cooking spray, but in the excitement of the big day, forgot ...

In hindsight however, seeing that it stuck to the threads as well as it did, I might have wrapped the section that passes through the transom and hull with tape of some sort, to make it easier to tap them out with a mallet later, and clean the rod by removing the tape. Electrical tape ought to be slippery enough.

As it was, the rods tapped out easily by smacking them with a piece of wood and a hammer. The epoxy that remained on the rods came off mostly with an awl, but a propane torch made quick work of the rest. They're ready for the next boat now. :)

Thanks GW and Wood, sounds like something is better than nothing, ill see what i have around.

I think i better plan this right, mock up the system dry, then take it apart, pb the transom back, then tighten from the center out...gonna set up a mixing station on board, looks like ill be climbing in and out alot for this, doing it alone. ;)

Packing tape works like a champ with Polyester, not sure if it works with epoxy. I've also heard of bees wax, but don't know if it actually works, seems like it would.

Offtrack update:

I went up to the lake and encountered ab altercation with a neighbor, not what i wanted, but ill take care of the azz.. anyway

While uncovering a sea ray I have, a 1991 170br, i noticed a problem in the transom, and i know what that means.

After i deal with the neighbor problem, i guess i need to bring the SR home and deal with it

Funny how that works with neighbors at the lake, lol.....spent a few years dealing with one of those.....they (brothers) no longer speak to me, which is what I wanted anyway, lol! Looks like you are just full of projects!

I cant figure people sometimes, but the other day, the wife came home in tears, saying the neighbor called her and yelled at her.

Since i dont get up to the lake too often, I have a landscaper cut the grass, well, he apparently missed a cut or two, and the grass grew. So this JO took it upon himself to cut the grass, then yell at the landscaper when he showed up, and told him to get lost. Then he called the wife and told her that he cut the grass, and instructed her that she needed to bring him $65 (in cash)....

Being from Jersey, the code says I need to wrap 65 singles in a band, and shove it down his throat lol...

So I lose a precious full work day on the boat.....

Sorry for the venting....

Yea arch, hanging around this forum turns what "appears" to be perfectly good boats into projects ;)

by "irritating me" mine got exactly what they didn't want....very long story but don't start telling me what I can and can't do on my property....I do not back down.....I walk softly and carry a very large stick.....seems to be a highly effective strategy! Hopefully yours will get the message. if not let me know, I have always wanted to vacation up there:D
