Got the bench done. It was pretty simple to get done, considering I have never done upholstery before. I slapped the speakers in there and she is ready to load up. I will be keeping it in the house to keep from getting screwed up until everything is done. I am going to do the sun deck tomorrow.

You'll make it! right now I'm battling a fuse blowing issue after replacing a blown head gasket haven't been in the water since labor day tracked it down hopefully to the ignition switch we'll see. Bench looks good.

Everything looks great, cabin in particular. I think vinyl is a better choice in there than fabric.

Yea my main thought was my kids spend most of the boating trips in there so the vinyle will feel cool not being in the sun and will allow better clean up. Just have to put some scotch guard or something to make staining less of an isse. Plus the vinyle is treated to be resistant to mold as where cloth wouldnt be.

Thanks for the lind words

Re: 1987 Four Winns 215 Sundowner Refit/Repower

Well I have been working hard the past few days on getting everything finished up, most is wiring and installing the little things. I installed the bilge pump and wired it up. I also did a double check of the engine systems and ended up repalcing the thermastate, it was sticking open a little and when I pulled it out I could feel that there was some kind of grit in it when i would manually open it so I just got a new one. I dont want any issues this year so I figured replacing it was better then trying to clean it out and hopeing there was no issues.

I also installed the tube ducting for the fans and wired up the trim button on the shifter. I have to finish installing the trim tabs tomorrow and get those wired up and tested, and get the ship-to-shore in and then all the systems will be good to go.

I have to get the sundeck finshed up yet also. i will be doing that eather tomorrow or friday morn. I had a great idea last night while at Walmart at 1:30am. They carry a bungee cargo net ment for using to hold stuff down in a truck bed that is just a little bigger then my sundeck so I picked one up and when the sundeck is finished I am going to attach the net to it so it covers the top side and is held in place on the underside of the deck, that way I can use the net to hold stuff down to the sundeck like towels and gear so that the wind wwont take it.

Well I didnt get to splash today, just ran out of time. I had to drive 50miles away to get replacement stickers for the bow number cause there is only one place that sells just stickers and since mine weren't expired I had to go there, so that ate up a lot of time.

Hey but I got it all buttoned up and she will be splashed tomorrow morn!! So the finished photos are below. I must say that the bungee net on the sun-deck came out really well, should work great to hold stuff in place.

The passenger side

Solar great work and hope your splash goes well. I think I finally figured out my electrical gremlin and will be getting wet sometime before the end of the weekend. Have a great time with the family this weekend you earned it and your resto is top notch in my opinion.

Looks great. Hopefully you're enjoying the lake right now.

Those hooks are a good idea. However, you may also want to check out some of the cool accessories here http://search.overtons.com/?D=boatmates&Nty=1&N=0&Dk=0&Ntt=boatmates I have a number of things from there on my boat and they're all handy as heck. Most come with suction cups that can easily be replaced with screws for permanent mounting.

found the issue, the gear for the distributor is damaged and the spindle stops at that spot, it just produces a small back fire when not under load but when under load is throws the timing making all kinds of issues, I will be getting a new gear and giving it another shot.. I suppose i should have done a better inspection of it during the rebuild. I know the new build didnt do it because the cam gear has no marks.

Re: 1987 Four Winns 215 Sundowner Refit/Repower

Well I tried to test but was sidelined yet again with the real reason the engine is having issue. It would run fine at idle but no power under load.

It boils down to a bad cam due to lack of lube. The Machine shop that did the long block wont put it as a warrenty claim because the say its because I didnt put a zinc supliment in the oil. Yes....lack of zince will cause this but over time not this fast. The real issue was found when thumbing threw the photos of the rebuild and I came across one of the under side that should the cam and crank as it was when I received it and the shop didnt apply any molly to any of the lifter lodes!.......Well i sappose I am partly at blame for not double checking it, but I assumed the shop did it correctly! I am thinking most of the damage was done during the cam break in considering it didnt have any lube.

I went back and forth with them and gave up, Its just a wast of time and they arent going to budge. I ordered a new cam and lifters and will get it back together and running. At least I dont have to pull the engine and it only takes about an hour to do the work on installing and putting back together.
