OK, got up early this morning when it was somewhat calm since today was supposed to be windy again. A couple tiny hiccups but otherwise everything went really good for the first run. A five minute video is uploading as I type this.

Ready to leave bright and early

Parked my truck and was walking back. Looks small from here.

I need to use gps but according to the boats gauge I got up to 55kmh - 34mph at near WOT. I didn't try adjusting the trim at that speed and was a bit choppy and new to me so I took it easy with everything.

Here fishy fishy fishy...

Video coming up!!

Just curious... how close did you stay to your initial budget of 1500?? You did a lot of work, just wondering if you stayed close to your budget.

Did I say that? Are you sure?

My plan is to budget $1500 for repairs so grand total will be $3000 for a decent boat for fishing and pulling our kids in a tube.

oh ya, guess I did!
That budget flew out the window so fast it wasn't even funny. There were so many things I just kept telling myself "well I need it" and it just kept adding up. Everytime I went to get something it was $200.00 not to mention the big times when it was five or six hundred. I could've saved money ordering resin/glass materials from Vancouver. The fiberglass store in our small city ended up being a rip off... good in a pinch but not for a full restoration. I would have saved $1000 if I bought one big order and had it shipped.
So in the end my $1500 repair budget was triple that!
Really happy with what I have though. I see a lot of junk for that much money and even the "nice looking solid boats" are not what they seem. It's great to know every square inch of my boat and how every nut and bolt is put together.

Re: 1986 Campion bowrider restoration

Boat has been good so far. Have used it for 5 or 6 hours. Something happened today though... :blue:

Got some new rod holders for today

Family kicking back relaxing

Heard a ticking sound all of a sudden... no running issues...
Sounded like it was coming from the belt or one of the pulleys...
Fished for a while with the kicker and then started the main motor again and heard the ticking after a few minutes. Sounded like it was loudest at distributor. Then started to backfire and run rough, stalled out at idle. I realized something was wrong, removed the cap and found some plastic bits on the cap terminals... removed them and ran the motor, was flooded but got it going.

Started the motor, could still hear ticking and backfired and was missing...
Removed the cap one more time saw more slight metal filings. Removed the plate with the points and saw what was wrong.

Removed the weight cover and weights and just idled back to the dock after fishing so all in all could have been a lot worse.
Hoping I can just get the weights and springs, etc... Anyone ever replace them before? Do I need a whole new distributor??

Anways has still been a lot of fun. Caught a small rainbow today, so first fish in the new boat!

Thanks for the quick reply and advice Wood. I will check on pricing and availability tomorrow and make a decision.

I agree... go with a new Distributor. better to be overly safe and replace it all then to be bothered by more mishaps while fishing with the family :joyous:

I really enjoyed reading your thread. Very nice work sir. That boat ought to last you a long time! Too bad to hear about the distributor mishap. Hopefully the fix is inexpensive. My hat is off to you =)

I am curious if you can tell me about how much resin you'd gone through after glassing in the deck. All I have to do in mine is the Transom, stringers, and deck in my boat which is a similar size. Around post 81 you had just finished with the deck. Thanks for any info.

Thank you!
At that point I was around 15-16 gallons which was pretty much exact with RickRyders estimate. Have fun with your project!

Wow ok thats more resin than I was expecting! My better half is going to be thrilled about that lol! I bought 3 gallons already sounds like that may only be good enough to get the transom in and maybe a stringer! Thanks for the info!
