Rebuild project Begun.

The boat has been in the family for about 8 years and the boat ran well for us for three of those years. However the boat was stored in a parking lot uncovered for about 5 years forgotten due to family circumstances and now I am rebuilding it. I've been lurking in the forums for a while and just soaking up some information. I wanted to thank ya'll for all your help and advice cause it has helped alot with the planning so far.

So far, We have pulled the boat into a garage and ripped out the flooring and carpet from the rear 3/4 of the boat, the front 1/4 being all fiberglass almost with the exception of the longitudinal beams that run the length of the vessel(fiberglass benches with compartments in them, pictures to follow in next post). We then pulled the gas tank and disposed of the old gasoline. The boat had foam in the bilge areas so next we pulled out all the foam and started drilling core samples out of the longitudinal beams.

The longitudinal beams are shot front the stern till about amidships at the very least. So the next step is to remove the inboard. I'll get ya'll some pictures so ya'll can see. Any advice ya'll can offer or questions ya'll have let me know. This is my first boat restore and first restore of any kind so its all new to me. Thank ya'll for your assistance in this matter. pictures to follow.

do you have a good mask ??A good dual filter mask ?
Dont wash the cloths in your wash machine !!
when your grinding run a shop vac, it will cut down on the dust by half !!

And also you got to keep this in mind , when your done she will be better then brand new !!

Welcome to the forums. The longitudinal structural elements you mentioned are called stringers. You might consider removing and replacing them one at a time. This will help keep the hull from twisting. It's not the set in stone way to do it but pretty common. If you do take them all out, you will need to take extra precautions to true up the hull prior to glassing in the new ones. Make sure you have all the right safety equipment too. Fiberglass, resins, solvents, and other chemicals are all really bad for you.

Can't wait to see some pics.

pictures coming today or tommorrow.

ya as for the stringers i was gonna take out the rear half from amidships back of both stringers because i know all that has to be replaced. the front half as you will see in the pictures is going to be more of a pain to do and from what we can tell so far may be okay. That way we have a starting point. if we do the stern first and work forward, we will be getting alot of the fabrication out of the way and can get the inboard back in before we tackle getting the consoles out in one piece. the boat was kept very nice up until the parking lot thing. and if not for standing water in the back half everytime it rained im sure the lamination would have lasted.
