Need too find out how too take the prop shaft out of the housing too replace the gear

Which gear do you need to replace?----There are 4 screws inside the propshaft bearing carrier.------Then you pull that carrier out.----Then you need a big pair of snap ring pliers to remove 2 rings.-Then reverse gear falls out.

A good factory service manual would really help you. They sell them right here on I-Boats.

both the forward and reverse. I took the boat out on a scout trip and the lower unit went out.

Agree, work from a factory manual. The reverse gear is sold separately, the pinion and forward gear are sold as a matched set.
