Here's a read and this is the way I went. If my tank craps out figure I'll just get anutter1. Good read, well respected.

I think the old way is done and over with foaming in aluminum tanks for so many obvious reasons.

When I received the USED tank it certainly did have a greenish self made film all over it.

My tank was not “strapped” in by any means. I mean it’s kind of pinned in there but I’d like to secure it some way. When I get to that point I’ll get some pics and pick everyone’s brains for ideas. I’m not even sure if I’ll have enough room vertically to glue the neoprene to the bottom. It’s a tight fit.

Sweet! Thanks. I could easily do something like that before I glass back in the berth floor. Won’t have any access after that.

Btw, I hate waiting for things to cure. Fiberglass is quick... I can do that. JB weld, not so much with 12hr cure time. I have primer and paint, I’m itching to go! Oh wait... more grinding tomorrow. I’ll be itching plenty.

SEM self etching primer coat after cleaning and wiping down thoroughly with vinegar and then acetone. Several wipes until cloth was clean.

first coat of POR 15 gray. Btw, the bugs apparently love this stuff. I’m doin this outdoors and bugs seem to be drawn to it. Gloves and respirator worn for both the primer and POR. Both nasty stuff. I’ll wait the 4-6 hrs and then recoat.

this is the top side.... you can see the glob of resin residue that was apparently used to “glue” the tank in originally. There were several of these spots on the bottom too. I knew it was resin from the smell when I started sanding on it.

Thank you! All for stuff no one will ever see again. Lol

seriously, the bugs love this stuff. I’ll have to wipe down with scotch Brite pad before second coat. Maybe bug guts are a corrosion inhibitor!

I should be out grinding the transom and engine stringers.... but I decided to have a few beers instead while waiting for second coat on the tank. Tomorrow is another day!

the grinding is coming. I keep finding other crap to do, putting it off. Ugh.

The foam roller worked amazing. It kinda looked like it would leave bubbles but after 10-15 minutes, the paint laid down smooth. (Minus the bugs, I just painted right over them.lol)
