Thanks. The cypress might also look better with the color of your boat. Both boats do seem really similar. I've done a little research but can't find a whole lot of info on the cheetah line of boats. All I've found is that the company that made them went out of business around 2001.

Thanks for a complement. So you decided on the sport seating with the outboard instead of the I/O it gives you the option of making the sundeck at any width. I had to make mine the width of the motor so the 17 ft is a little tight. I have about 1300 in seats and vinyl and foam. Pm if you would like the source i used to order my stuff

another pad done I have one more and the dash to finish and then all the vinyl will be completed the other side pad will have to be rebuild due to rot it was funny one side was perfect the other side was about half gone. Here are my latest pics. It still needs its teak accents that run between the blue and white sections.

Ok know that the vinyl is almost finished looking ahead to the the next upgrade. The last vinyl that will be changed is the dash panel I would like to upgrade the dash. After looking at pricing for gauges I will keep the ones that are in the dash it looks like they all are working. I am going to replace all the faded fuse holders. I think i am going with some carbon fiber vinyl to cover the aluminum plate. 3 questions any suggestions for this upgrade, any suggestions for cleaning up the gauges faded black trim and how in the He double hockey sticks do you get the steering wheel off.

Re: 1984 Cheetah 170 restore

Got some work done today. Took half a day to get the dash, gauges, fuse holders, switches, and cig lighter (that i am sure that doesnt work) out recovered back in and the steering back in what a pain in the *****. Going to cover all the aluminium with carbon fiber vinyl. Clean the face of one gauge with mild soap an armor alled it. Not sure if this is the best way to try to restore the finish on the gauge faces any other options would be welcome.

Re: 1984 Cheetah 170 restore

got my dash all put back together today here are a few pics i was hoping for a little darker blue but i guess that is the chances you take when you buy online. I am at the home stretch on the interior and didnt want it to linger for another week i should be done tommorow and maybe next weekend splash. Wanted to replace all the fuse holders but could find any locally that fit the bill so only replaced the ones that were broke.

That blue carbon-fiber looks awesome...so what if it doesn't match the seat/pad vinyl? It matches the blue on the gauges exactly!

What else is left for you to do?

Did not even notice the blue matching in the gauges. I need to take all the interior out give everything a good cleaning along with the carpet. Install battery boxes for the 4 batteries i am putting in, One starter battery the other three house batteries. Then install all the interior parts. Go over the outside with a buffer, after i pulled her out of the dark garage i found some places i need to do a little more buffing and polishing on the out side. There are a few other little odds and ends i need to do but nothing that will keep her out of the water.

Completed all my teak but one damn piece that i didn't see until it was to late. The biggest job was the swim platform a it took me probably 3 hours to get all the gray out. Here are few pics of the work.

Interior is finished this boat will see splash but the end of the week thanks to a little help from some on the forum got the forward reverse aligned so now it goes in gear as it should. Started her today for the first time with the motor in the boat. I had to do some fine tuning with the timing and she is purring like a Cheetah LOL. Here are a few pics

That's one sharp finished product! I've been looking adding a stereo on my 166 but I can't decide on where I'd like to mount the speakers. Where are you putting yours, how many, and what size?

Re: 1984 Cheetah 170 restore

I am planning on a pair of 6 in and a pair of 6 x 9 infinity speakers mounted in back seat front facing I am not sure on the head unit trying to decide between a boss mr1560DI, sony dsxms60 or a Clarion M309 and adding a MB Quart NAU460 amp and a sub at a later time.
