Re: 1984 Cheetah 170 restore

Have made some great progress in the last couple of days got the old motor out of the boat. Interesting solution. I looked all over you tube and couldn't really find any solution on how to get the motor out just using a chain hoist. Went and bought a piece of angle and a couple chain shackles and a piece of iron pipe. Cut the angle in half lagged it into my floor joist about the boat connected the shackles to the angle and the pipe through the shackles then the hoist on the pipe. I was a little scared to get to close so stood back as far as i could and still be able to operate the hoist. Got the motor just high enough at its limit to get it out of the boat even had to lift the front of the boat up on the trailer front wheel and just move the boat with the safety changes but non the less just cleared the back of the boat. Have got everything swapped around except the fly wheel and rear mount and cover should be about to get is in the boat by tomorrow evening

Looking good, I would have definately not passed that up for $500.00 - How did you find it? I am always keeping my eye on clist for a cheap bowrider but so far nothing.

i did find it on Clist but had to buy it without putting it in the water. I bought it knowing it may have some motor issues and knew that i had access to another motor if i needed it for 100 dollars but it has been a fun project so far

Re: 1984 Cheetah 170 restore

thought i would update i am still moving towards my goal of getting it done by spring. I have purchased a singer 201-2 to redo my seats but having an issue getting it to sew correctly. I have ordered a few parts that i have found are missing. Will get some lumber this weekend to start to build the bench seat and a newly designed sun deck on the back. Hope to get the machine working by next week. Wish me luck

Re: 1984 Cheetah 170 restore

ok had a little time today to get a few things done. Got my bench seat build for the back of the boat minus the the seat its self. Its done but i didn't like the overhang on the front of the bottom. So it needs to be cut down a little. It has been a pain trying to us my shopsmith cause the boat is taking up so much room in my shop. and all the left over parts that i have from my engine rebuild are taking up bench space. Here is a few picks of my progress and of all my left over parts100_3481.jpg100_3482.jpg100_3483.jpg100_3484.jpg100_3485.jpg

Small steps at a time I have got the sundeck done now along with the beach seat. Now a question for you guys how thick should the foam be on the sundeck the seatback and the seat. Also where the sundeck and the bench meet i am wondering if the foam on the seat back could extend to the thickness of the foam on the sundeck. I tryed to draw a crude drawing wondering if the red section could support itself

Re: 1984 Cheetah 170 restore

Scott,

i would use 4" thick foam on the seat back and min 2" (4" would look/feel great) on the sundeck. As far as having the foam extended...I would probably run the wood under the sundeck a little long (within 1" of the back of the seat). While I know having it "free" would be fine initially, either option would wear out really quick from people sitting on the back of the seat/front of sundeck. Not saying you couldn't do it, but I would vote against it...

Try something like this...the overhang could be angles to match the angle of your bench seat back.

Thanks i like that idea, I cant quit use it cause i have already built the bench and the deck but it changed my mind on how to attach the foam. Going to turn it down like you suggested on the sun deck land it on the back of the bench. What about this option drawing out of proportion but i am sure you get the idea

I got a chance to do a little work finally pulled out all of the seats and bumpers and installed the carpet up the inside wall looked nice i thought. I also orderd all the vinyl and seats to finish the interior the only thing i didn't order was the thread. I was wanting some info on needle size and thread size to sew the few things i need to sew. d!cid_7998167FD9B84A9F878E1F9041261E7F@homePC.jpg!cid_1B3B0E0F4CB240418AEDD9BE20BDE43C@homePC.jpg!cid_A17A2079BF6348BAA44A798BB039386D@homePC.jpg!cid_B164FD412B4748B085958783A2BC5D80@homePC.jpg

Re: 1984 Cheetah 170 restore

all the wood rebuild even with the injury started the upholstery today here is a pic of a seat for the bow of the boat not stapled yet, got all three seats done. Found that the staples i have wont work with my stapler. Not pro quality but well be a great improvement. I went with the french seam instead of piping but will use blue piping around the outside edges where vinyl is attached to the wood backing. Hoping to get the seat backs and pads done this week end which would complete the bow.

Re: 1984 Cheetah 170 restore

Scott,

Good to see you making headway with the interior...sorry about your mirror incident, that sucks. How many sutures?

Anyway, you cannot beat the quality and price of veada, huh? Easy to deal with and all (I looked on iboats, but the Wise stuff was not what I was looking for and the prices were much higher for comparable product!). Your craftsmanship is excellent and I really like the the diamond patterns, unique for sure! Looking forward to the resplash pictures...soon?!

Here in Colorado the weather has been way too nice (80's) so we made the annual first trip of the season to Pueblo Res. Great day, not many boats and hardly any wind (a rarity for sure!). The seats and vinyl held up well and clean-up real easy with the 303 protectant!
