Re: 1983 Lund American 16ft Transom Replacement

Before I cut anything on the splashwell I fit the top cap all the way around the boat using clamps and vice grips to keep it there. Then I cut out part of the splash well.
Here is the part of the splashwell I cut out.

I trimmed about a 1/2" off and fit it back in. I used screws and pieces of flat metal to try and keep the same lines.

I taped off the gap I knew I would have. I figured when I do the paint prep the big gap would make it easier to blend and fill. I filled the gap with PB and then started layering on the fiberglass underneath the splashwell.

Top side of splashwell in the middle with tape on it.

Bottom side middle of splashwell.

Top side of splashwell with tape pulled off. It filled in really nice.

I filled in the gaps with PB and glassed the bottom side of the seams. I layed down three coats of glass on the bottom side. It's kinda hard to see but the the pics on post #62 show the top side filled and the bottom side glassed.

Does anyone have ideas of how to flip the hull? I'm not as worried flipping it now but after it has been painted I'd hate to scratch it. Thanks!

I'd glass the top too!! If you don't it WILL crack. I slid my boat off the cradle and onto the yard. Blankets and 2 helpers and we had her upright in 10 mins. Of course I have a Tilt trailer and it was really simple to crank her back on.

Ok thanks!! If I glass the top how would I blend it in real nice and get it as smooth as the original? A bunch of filler?

Grind the gap about 2" on each side so it's bowled out about 1/8". Use two layers of CSM to fill the Bowled out area. Feather it out and Fair it in. Poly resin and Glass bubble makes a GREAT fairing material.

Ok so I haven't been on here in a while. Actually a long while. Well the boat process continues. I'm just curious why none of my previous pictures are view able? Is it my computer or the forum changes here on Iboats? I'm just about ready to cut the floor and fit it. I would like to add some photos but not sure if it would make sense seeing my previous pictures are not working.

Ok so I've been trying to upload new pictures and it doesn't seem to be working. Should I be added them as attachments or using the share photos?

I flipped the top cap and cut out all the wood.

Then glued and fiberglassed the new wood in.
