Thanks Glen. I was hoping to get the nautolex in this weekend since the temps are so warm but I don't think it's gonna happen. I'm having a real tough time finding the nautolex 88 adhesive anywhere. Even bass pro doesn't have it. I can order it from the US but with shipping and exchange it's gonna be a 100 bucks a quart.
Any suggestions from fellow Canadians on where you guys get this stuff? Or any suggestions from the Starmada on tried and tested alternative adhesives like the Ducan adhesives for their vinyl deck covering. I'd like to stay clear of contact cement if I can as the whole instant bond thing scares the heck outta me.

Thanks gf! The original configuration on mine did ne have any floatation in the belly, just one big long ski locker. When I was looking at adding the floatation I thought it was a shame that all this great space would be lost. I came up with the cooler idea figuring it would also work as floatation as long as I could get the lid to seal properly. Armed with measurements off I went to the stores to find something close enough to work with. The coleman 24 can party stacker fit the bill. I was going to do the am thing under the rear cast deck but I messed up the measurements when I added bracing to the splashwell so the cooler I had which fit perfect doesn't fit anymore. I may still try with another style cooler as I like the idea that it adds floatation and storage.

I used Ducan's stuff. It worked out fine for me. It's still what I would call contact cement. No second chances. Here's a link to comments in my rebuild thread.

Thanks again Grandad. I noticed they have water based, oil and a pro adhesive. Which did you use and did you have epoxy or spar sealant on your ply? I read through your thread but I didn't see what you sealed your ply with.

Hi Candutch. I just looked for a leftover can and don't seem to have any for confirmation, but I don't recall it being the cold weather type, so of the only 2 products currently available at HD where I bought it, the only one I might have used is the water soluble one. I know that I was anticipating an issue with fumes accumulating, considering the cup shape of the hull and being inside an outdoor shelter. I actually had no problem with fumes and with extra hands the job went smoothly. If I could have found the Nautolex adhesive, I would have used it to ensure everything was as specified, but I've got no complaints with this Ducan adhesive. There's no staining and no lifting anywhere. On the other hand, I did also try some of Ducan's "filler" that was pretty much useless because it was too thin and shrank too much.

If you look through my rebuild thread, you'll see pictures of just how well the original plywood had survived for 40 years (at least 25 summers moored on water), so I never replaced the original 1/2". The only part I sealed was the underside of the aft 4' on either side of the engine using extra Gluvit that was already mixed and looking for a home. To be honest, I did replace the port side aft piece that sits under the gas tank cuz it was rotted and and smelled of fuel from the leaking original gas tank. I noted that the new replacement (1/2" exterior fir ply) was slightly thinner and somewhat more flexible than the original 1/2", but if you look at my boat's layout, you'll see no one can step there anyway. I didn't trust entirely untreated new ply and sealed the underside and edges, but not the top. As for the rest of the original, since it lasted 40 years, it'll still be good for many more. - Grandad

Thanks again Grandad. One of the Ducan adhesives said not to use on painted surfaces or on oil based stains. I can't remember which though and both say to new plywood only. Since my decking is all treated with spar varnish I guess that one is out. I guess I'll have to call them next week and ask what they recommend for the floor and for adhesive to aluminum.
Thanks for the tip on the filler as I was going to use that to fill the countersunk rivets and plywood joints. Guess I'll have to find something else now.

Another good day on the boat. Got my ski locker cover cut and started getting the spar on it along with my dash panels. Also got the rear deck cut and holes for the pedestal and deck plate which gives acces for the ski pole.

I'm going to have to cut the support arms for the ski pole down some as they are about 3 inches too long right now.

Tomorrow I will add some reinforcement under deck pedestal and deck plate since there are two big holes so close together. Then I will get the spar on it.

Looks real nice. It's giving me ideas for my transom area.

Thanks Irv, I'm quite happy with how the stern is turning out. A bit pricey with all the aluminum but I want to make sure it will hold up if/when the decking starts to get soft.

Sweet! Thanks Glen, that sure makes it look easy. How thick did you spray the contact cement and did you pull the 1/2 sheet of poly out in one shot then roll or pull and roll as you went?

You have to start in the center and work out, be careful not to stretch the vinyl as you lay it out on the glue. Get it all laid out flat then roll it in stages a little heavier each time or you will stretch it and possibly introduce air bubbles.

Thanks Budski, your SS16 was the inspiration for the deck. I'll be exstatic if this ends up looking half as good as your rebuilds.

I got some more work done this weekend. A lot of time spent but doesn't look like much accomplished.
I made some modifications to the framing for the rear deck and added some bracing. I also cut the hatch openings in the rear deck, routered the edges for the hatch and laminated some reinforcement underneath. The starboard side hatch will be supported on the frame on 3 of 4 sides.
I cleaned up the consoles and front deck support to prepare them for paint or vinyl and cleaned up the ww motor and got is running smooth.
Question on the wiper, what size blade and arm do I need? The boat didn't have one on it.
