Thanks Irv...I'm taking mine out again tomorrow or the next day to see if it does that again. I wonder what would cause that when everything else seems to work perfect.

I'm my case it ended up being a faulty spark plug wire.

Congrats on the splash of a beautiful boat! I think you should be able to do a bit better on your speed with a 120 as I was hitting 38-40 loaded up with only a 90 on the same boat. Did you mess with the trim at all while running?

Thanks skyfisher, yes I was/am really happy.

Irv, I read that in your thread. Mine all appear good but I'll pull them and clean the contact points just in case.

EZ, I was adjusting the trim the problem was the rpms. I thought 5800 was the max you should go. I could get it up to 6400 at WOT but that didn't result in any real mph gain. Maybe my tach isn't accurate but the engine sounded pretty wide open.
I also think my boat is a lot heavier than its original version and I have a lot more weight in the front. I think I'll take it to the scale tomorrow.

Major Congrats Rob on the splash. What a fine piece of work you have done with the restoration project on both the boat and the trailer!

Same issue I have with 4 batteries and double decks of thick ply, livewell and 80# trolling motor on the bow. Everyone says I should get more too, 45 by GPS on mine with a 140 and I'm happy as heck since I cruise at 30 almost all the time.

5800 is my max rpm too but I don't like to push the old gal that hard for long. The thought of buying a new OB isn't my idea of fun.

Ya I'm pretty sure the weight kills the top end. I had it out yesterday, start of the day with a 3/4 tank I could only manage 38.4 mph at WOT. On the way in with under 1/4 tank 42.2 mph WOT.
I'm like you Rob, I'm happy cruising around 32 and with the way my SS cut through the whitecaps yesterday without slamming at all I'm totally fine with the reduced top end speed.

As promised some pics from the vacation. This was the only day on the boat since the weather wasn't really co-operating.
Start of the day, calm waters and warm weather.

Then it got cool and the admiral actually wrapped herself up in a blanket.

Broke in the cooler and got some slime in the boat. The fish actually replaced the refreshments once I started catching them. Unfortunately no trout, just the northern pike minnow, about 12 of them. Squaw fish for you old timers lol! I kept 3 to see how they turn out smoked.

Hey thanks for the ride along Rob, it sure is great to see you out enjoying your SS. :thumb:

Yeah I've tried to eat just about everything I've ever caught including squawfish. They are really mild flavored but boney as all get out. When I was a kid I decided that I would cook and eat every thing I caught, that included any scrap fish I got my hands on, peamouth chub, carp but I couldn't bring myself to eat a mud sucker.

Lol...when I was a kid I wasn't so adventurous. It was walleye only and nothing else from the lakes and streams back then. Now that I'm older and kind of consider myself a hunter gatherer of sorts I'm trying my hand at most everything I guess. Like you though I draw the line at mud sucker and not sure I could do a carp either lol.

One day I brought home a tube sock full of river mussels and put them in a cooler of water so they'd spit out all the sand and then I boiled them up. It was like eating 4 or 5 pieces of bubblelicious gum, think I over cooked them. My dad thought I was loosing it and he got mad at me for stinking up his smoker with all them scrap fish.

Sorry I'm late to the Splash Candutch! The Boat looks great! I hope to be in your shoes of posting a splash one day, but at the rate I'm working on it it may be a little while. Congrats again!:)

Lol...I only use river mussels for bait, I can barely stomach the salt water variety and I'm originally from the east coast.

Thanks Brackett, I hope you have your resto on here I would love to follow along. I remember the days I never thought I would finish this project. Just keep getting yourself out there and do 1 job at a time, that way you won't burn out and hate the project.
