Well it's been a while, motor is back together and runs nice now with no leaks. I need to get a box of 1"stainless screws to finnish fastening the gunwal side panels and this one is complete. Too bad I have to wait 5 months for soft water, for the splash.

No hard water here bud... in fact was out yesterday and picked up 5 winter springs.
4 in the low teens and one at 20. If you want to splash that thing you are welcome here... GLG

dozer, i really enjoyed reading your about your progress. i have a similar project to do in the spring. i picked up a 18' 1988 smoker craft w/ 90 yamaha OB very i have the motor straightened out and running good. i bought to use for hunting sea ducks and fishing. my transome is rotted and the floor has been over layed.

i sent you a PM. how hard is it to get the splash well out of the boat? is it rivited in or srcewed? my gas tank is under the splash well bolted to the floor.

i plan on using the boat untill the end of feb. then start the rebuild. i will start a thead on it when i get started.

Got your PM's .The splash well is riveted, screwed and glued in but they do come out fairly easy.

I made a PDF with all the pictures and details, in a condensed "how-to" format. I hope that's ok? I couldn't attach it here cause its too big, but you can download it from Hotfile for free of course.

Click the "Regular Download" box and wait the required 15 seconds. Then enter the annoying captcha, and download.

Here are the links. I've uploaded a full-size and a smaller size for those with slow internet (if there are any left).

Full size 20.9 MB
http://hotfile.com/dl/141109202/72273df/dozerII_78_18SS_resto.pdf.html

smaller 9.8 MB
http://hotfile.com/dl/141108573/9463a2e/dozerII_78_18SS_resto_smaller_2.pdf.html

If for any reason you disprove of this, just let me know and I will remove it.

We should go splash these things at Cold Lake this summer. Let me know if that sounds like a plan to you.

Hey Paul, no problem looks real good and allows a real quick look at the resto thread. I saw your post on purchasing an SS a little to late, I know where there ia screaming deal on a one owner 16 SS for $1000.

Sprintst. Cold lake would be a great idea but it is a 10 hour drive for me. My brother lives in Edson, and has a lake lot at Slave lake, he wants me to come up there next summer, maybe that would work.

Just read the thread. Excellent work. Wish I would have seen it before I started mine. I still need to do the trailer.

Thanks Wig, redoing the trailers can be a daunting task.

Re: 1979 Starcraft 18 SS Here we go again!!

Got the 18 pulled back in the shop after it's winter hibernation. Had some wiring "DUH's" to fix, now the Tach, trim gauge, volt gauge and charging system are all working. Some how the PO managed to break off about 3" of the skeg on the 85 in his driveway. He kept the broken piece so I have to weld that back on. The water is getting soft real quick here with some 70 degree days, they are still forcasting some winter for later this week and next week so we will have to see about a splash. I have to to go to services Canada and get her registered as well.

Good to hear you're coming along, this warmer weather has been great. My lake had 27" of ice on it a couple weeks ago, but I bet not so much now.

Geterdone man!! All open water here. Good work on the wiring. That's something I'm not looking forward to. Maybe it's easier to start from scratch, hope so.
Nice to see your back to making some progress.

Exciting Glen! 2 splashes in one year --- and it is only March! Will there be a 3rd???? Sounds like you are real close now.... Glad to hear about your warm weather --- means it should be here in a day or so (although I must admit it is super nice today!)
