Came across a free boat, and I love the this thing. Unfortunately, the floor, deck stringers are all rotted. I ripped up the carpet and plywood floor. I'm down to looking at rotted stringers and mushy fiberglass/foam. I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed and defeated at this point. I've read many of the topics on here, it I'm mostly looking for step by step process instructions, or even some guidance. I've added some pics of my beauty. Anyone want to let me know if I'm crazy and should ditch out on this??

Does it come with the title for the boat, and one for the trailer if required in your state?

I'd make sure I was gonna be able to take legal ownership before spending a dime or doing any work on it,..

If all that comes together and you want to take it on, At least it is a small boat so there should be less grinding,....

Hello!

Wow you two are FAST. Yes, I own the boat (title and trailer, state of MN). It helps that it was my brother in-laws as well. But, great point you have.

@woodonglass... thanks for the welcome! :)

I'm guessing it has an outboard?

Does it run?

If yes,.....I say go for it,....

Yes, Johnson 90hp, and that runs. :) Glass is in great shape, and I pulled off the vinyl cushions to use as a template. I'll try to get a pic up again...

Im hoping to replace the stringers UP TO the bow/console. I saw a video on YouTube of almost the same boat where a guy did the replacement from the console and back. I'm
Not looking to replace the transom either, however I did notice a harder white shell (appears to be painted fiberglass, or reinforced with something) in the back of the boat. I'll upload a picture if anyone has any ideas on what and if I can replace/mimic, it would be appreciated, thanks!!

Here is a pic of the white "shell" I'm hoping to cut this off as well when cut/grind the stringers... thoughts? Thanks!

Umm...I would seriously consider at least core sampling the transom - low as possible. That metal plate gooped on the inside and the one on the outside of the transom are usually tell-tale signs of at least a compromised transom if not one that's a goner. Those plates are not factory.

+1 to core sample the transom. Highly likely to have been rotting for quite some time and been covered up by those plates. Compared to the whole job, doing the transom doesn't add too much more work.

Yeah, I was hoping to avoid it. But I suppose if I have come this far.. "when in Rome."
