What is the best procedure for that? Cutting around the deck with a die grinder? And what do you mean only one? One stringer?

Yeah one stringer. At least that's what I'm gathering you said you had.

I believe the typical way to cut out the deck is with a circular saw with the blade depth carefully set to just the thickness of the deck. Be super careful not to cut through the hull (although lots have done it and it's not the end of the world if you do).

How can you tell how many strigers you have? The stringer is the stud that goes the length of the deck right?
Also, how is the deck constructed? Plywood glassed over?
Just cleaned alot of the stuff off transom area. The mounts at the top of the engine.. the transom is strong there. Not so much a foot or so below. I can see the flex when i move the engine up and down. But only about half an inch in and out.
