Replaced the points and condensers and still no spark. I am going to replace the spark plugs just for the hell of it. I removed the plate that holds the coils and inspected the wires that ran out the bottom of it, and also removed the rubber sleeve to make sure that there were no cracks or breaks in the wires.
IT WAS THE SPARK PLUGS THE WHOLE DAMN TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I tested a spark plug from my lawn mower and i got the best blue spark! i was about to take it to a mechanic and this was my last act of desperation! I am so happy right now!!!!!!!!!!
I'm ashamed to admit that I assumed (that horrible word) that you had used a spark tester. Highly recommend picking one up (http://www.autozone.com/autozone/ac...ark-tester/_/N-268s?itemIdentifier=10257_0_0_) -- this $8 tool will allow you to test not only whether you have spark but how strong and consistent it is, eliminating the plugs as a variable.
well the good news is that the motor runs (two new spark plugs). runs pretty nice actually. But for some reason it wont run unless i have the spark plug boot pulled off just slightly. i am gonna have to pick one of those testers up. Also For some reason i am not getting any water out of the water hole.
take a look at this photo. i held my garden hose up the the water exhaust port to see if i could get water through the system. i did but water wasnt coming just out of the pipe. a lot of water was coming from around the pipe as well. is this bad? http://i.imgur.com/rBzf7.jpg
I read this whole thread and I'm glad you got your motor running. I'm currently having a similar problem with my Evinrude 9.5 hp Sportwin. When I first got it, I was getting 1 spark now neither will spark! I will go through the step you did and hope I am as lucky. Purchased new plugs, this evening!
