Re: 1976 22' Starcraft Islander Rebuild

Oh man, sorry Michael! Thought I already posted that info, apologies!

Yup, best deal I could find was at Bry-Tech out of Jacksonville, FL. They let it go for $7.99/yd. There were a couple of places that could come close, in the $9 range. Most were in the $13-$15 range. There were even a few that were in the $20-$25 silly range. I was feeling pretty darn good about that price:)

For those of you who end up with Wise seats the match I found was the Nautolex Capitano Mystic White. Check it out...

No worries. I knew you'd come through! That site is now logged in my Book of Knowlege....Thanks How did you beat them down? Did you get free shipping?:D

BTW..For some reason the old timers around here use the slang "moly" for the monel staples. Go figure.

No beat down, I think I may have asked nicely? Or, was I waving around my pitchfork while I was emailing them and they got nervous. I don't recall now. No free shipping either. I see on my UPS tracking that the box weighs 40 lbs., that is heavy! They charged me about $20 to ship, I didn't mind, stuck me as a good deal all told:)

Ok guys, yall have some pretty fancy paint jobs around here (Charlie being the latest) and you have me doing some thinking, ok.

Check this out. This is cc190cc's (Chad) Fishmaster, sweet ride...

I personally think that stripe work is very classy on that rig. Very cool!

I bet you can guess where I might be headed here. Still just thinking things over.

Question for ya....

If you were to take a guess, what would you say the width of the blue stripe is and width of the white strip is?

I'd PM him but he is long gone. I think he may have sold this boat too.

Found them on e-bay and I just ordered 10 yards of their Marine Naugahyde... $5.75 per yard.

Re: 1976 22' Starcraft Islander Rebuild

Hey Jas... getting excited to see your finished paint job! =)

As a bit of encouragement I was just in the paint store yesterday and grabbed some rustoleum to get a coat on my lil boat's trailer wheels. the guys there seem to really know their stuff, and told me that the rusto paints are getting better and better, and that primer/topcoat with it is pretty much bombproof. They said a bunch of guys are painting their tractors and logging equipment with it and getting awesome results. I used Interlux on the lil boat (got it for a song from a friend) and it's holding up well, but that rusto seems to be a solid paint at a small fraction of the cost.

They also said that it's a VERY slow cure, particularly the primer, and it likes warm, dry environment and up to a week to get full cure. Any more news on the squishy paint on your hull? Is it firming up more yet?

looks to me like the white stripe is a bit wider than the blue one could just be the angle but I would guess around 50% difference so 1 1/2" and 3/4" ? 1" and 1/2" ? 2" and 1" ? It seems any of these would work depending on how much of a whitewall look you want. I like the paint job as well.

I'm with yoop that the white looks a little thicker and going by the 2x4 trailer guide I'd call it around 2 in wide. Its a nice clean look and ya can't go wrong with the size of it. With you're big rig I'd probably go bigger than that one.

Re: 1976 22' Starcraft Islander Rebuild

Thanks for stopping in guys, appreciate it. It's great to have more sets of eyes checking stuff out. If I go that stripe route I want it to look right ya know. Too think or too thin I think it may look a little cheezy. I'll stew on it for a while longer, I have lots of time before I actually get to hull paint.

WS - I haven't really picked at the bottom hull paint. I kinda figure it is what it is. If it sticks and stays cool! If I get chunks peeling off, it's on the bottom so no biggie, and in a few years I can pick up the boat, light sand, repaint. No sweat.

I'll for sure be adding that "Majic" hardener stuff for the rest of my paint work!:)

Still slow progress....

Side panels all epoxied and sanded smooth...

This morning I was able to sneek on a coat of primer before I had to take off...

Coat of primer on the bow hatch bottoms too...

I'm looking forward to getting these wrapped up and out of my shop as they take up a ton of space. I need to get working on some other stuff, eh!

Re: 1976 22' Starcraft Islander Rebuild

Oooh, that looks interesting! Heard any feedback from people who've used it?

Yah, we were kinda kicking it around here....

http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=473098&pagenumber=

Charlie ran it on his super awesome paint job and is telling us that it's cured hard in a couple of days vs. what would normally take forever. Especially in these 40's-60's temps.

Time to quit messing around and make her look like this one Jas http://duluth.craigslist.org/boa/2365077862.html :D

That is an awesome rig, but the paint scheme kinda hurts my eyes:redface:

If the trailer/hardtop/canvas were white that boat would look 100% better. Just one doods opinion.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

OK, another coat of primer and first top coat laid down yesterday. I think that is all I'll do on those side panels for now. I just wanted to get a start to make it easier to paint once they are in the boat and seat boxes mounted. I think I'll do a light sand after they are fully cured and install them.

Agree with the paint, and canvas comment with that red camper top it looks like it should have a snow blower or plow on the front to me:D. Glad to see your making progress on those side panels can't wait to start cutting plywood as that will mean I'm getting close to putting it all back together.:)

Re: 1976 22' Starcraft Islander Rebuild

Well my Mother's Day Honey Do List was a long one yesterday but I did sneak in just a couple of things.

This is the old backer plate for the bow eye that I needed to replicate...
P1050620.jpg

So I grabbed that chunk of "stringer meat" I cut off a while back...
P1050617.jpg

And...
P1050621.jpg

Painted and installed...
P1050639.jpg

Little 4200 to seal things up. I do like this big beefy SS U Bolt...
P1050637.jpg

A while ago I took the original big white Styrofoam triangle piece and wrapped it in trash bags. Well I changed my mind and decided to get rid of that all together. Instead, I dumped some more garbage in my hull. I know you guys love it...

Morning Jas, Looking good. That there Islander is going to be like a time capsule, when the time comes for it's next restore. Some poor guy way down the line is going to pull up the old floor, sit back crack another beer and scratch his head.
Happy mothers day to all.

Looks like someones been eating too much candy and washing it down with soap:eek: I'm no dietitian but doesn't sound like the healthiest diet to me :) Nice work on the bow eye should be heavy duty enough to just hang her up in the garage during the winter :D
