Cable is removed. Now to find a replacement, the part number leaves a lot to be desired (T 20 FT L2) So guessing it is a 20' cable, helm says Tereflex, now to figure out what the L2 stands for. This cable has threaded ends at the plastic sheathing, no pins to remove, simply unscrew and remove.

Bondo, what would you suggest for a kit then? I'm not opposed to it. Like I said it has 339 hours total on the boat. Helm feels good.

Ayuh,..... I'm just sayin' the helm is old too,....

The expense is the cable, a complete kit is nearly the same price as just the cable,....
'n with the Kit, ya know the cable fits the helm,....

Ok, having difficulty finding the right new helm. The problem I have is finding one with the right end on the transom to jet. It needs to be threaded. Ideas? I believe I included a picture of the end I need.that goes to the jet. I figured the Safety T would be easiest and appears to work with the jet without a bunch of rework to the cockpit.

I thought that boat was low hours. Why do you think the helm is worn out?

Ayuh,..... Helms have changed in the last 40 odd years,.....

Findin' a new cable that fits a 40 odd year old helm is a problem,.....

With the price of just the cable, nearly as much as a complete helm, 'n cable Kit, makes replacin' Just the cable, a fool's errand,....

Helm changed. Had it out on the water. No leaks. Fighting fuel tank issues. Had to run a hose through the fill spout to get back to the dock. Anti siphon valves were plugged. Cleaned them and ran it again, and lost fuel to pump. I'm guessing clogged anti siphon valves again from debris and sludge in the tank. Yes, I did drain about 10 gals of old fuel total from both tanks. At an idle, she will run all day I'm sure, When I ask for more throttle, it starts cutting out from fuel starvation. I installed a 3/8 plastic fuel filter to see what is being pulled from the tanks and what came through before it died is dark brown sludge.

Pulling from the top of the fuel tank, this old tub (I'm laughing as several people I have been talking about the boat about was VERY surprised) will do almost 40 MPH. Pretty impressive for a 1974 25' cabin cruiser. The same questioning looks when I said its draw was about a foot from centerline, or 8" from the side of the hull to water line.

Electrical system is coming along, Blower will be replaced as it is inop. Changing to dual inline blowers. Bilge pump works on automatic so will be upgrading to two pumps with manual override. I'm going to have to change out the gauges at the helm, some work, but most don't. Oil psi, temp, alt work. RPM, Fuel Level, are inop..

Power washed the carpets, wow. Very very dirty. Lots of sand and dirt.

Helm is stiff under power but manageable, about a turn and a half stop to stop due to hard stops on the jet.

Replacing counter top and galley table in Blue Pine. Replacing alcohol/white gas cook top with propane.

Replacing gas/12 volt Refer as the one there is shot, I believe

Cushions are being replaced with memory foam.

Electronics are being replaced; stereo (8 Track), VHF radio, depth sounder, thermal chart recorder all DOA.

The reason I am putting all this out there is if someone else is trying to restore an old boat like this, they will have some helpful hints on what I discovered.

Being that parts for the jet are no longer available, Someone suggested I pull the impellers to have another set made. Thoughts?

Well that is the update as of now.

Thank you all for your time.

Absolutely NOT a pro here at all..
I've been following for a bit.. :D

That said, if in fact parts for the jet drive are NLA, then yeah..
If it's not a pain to do so, and then reassemble, I'd consider pulling whatever you could that is NLA while it's in "Dry Dock" and being worked on and having some made.
Probably easier for a shop to copy an intact set of impellers instead of trying to recreate them if there's no "Mold" if you will.

At least then, the shop you use will have the templates/measurements/specs to make them again should you have issues with them in the future.

Again.. NOT a pro, but to this relative newbie, it makes sense to do it if you can and you plan to keep the jet drive.

What happened to our pictures ? I have been following this thread because I was thinking about converting a starcraft into a jet in the future . I believe I saw your boat for sale on CL a few weeks ago and had it saved in my favorites but decided it was too far away. Looks like you are doing a better job than I ever could have anyway and with the history of the boat the rite man has the rite boat.
Really would have liked to see more pictures as you progressed along with the restore though.

you know , I just looked back to the beginning of your post and see that it was 2017 when you started it. This in much earlier than the one I saw on CL. The one I saw was either from Utah , eastern Oregon or eastern Washington , I can't remember but it had the same jet hanging out of the stern as yours that's why I thought you had bought that one and it was the one you were working on. Never would have thought there would be several of these around.

You asked for it you got it Toyota----- Islander jet--21ft big block aluminum boat---TRI-CITIES , WASHINGTON CL-----
This one is in fact not the one I was talking about but I came across it while looking for the other one.
Fairly cheap on the price but you might get it cheaper , you never know.

Got it. Sent him a text. Hoping for a reply. I would go pick it up, that way I could pull the high performance impellers from my jet to have another set made. I would like to have a set or two on the shelf so if a oops happens I have a set ready to go.

Yep it's easy to pick up a rock now and then and chew up an impeller if you run in shallow water much. If you can believe the ad this has a lot of functioning parts that are in good condition , don't know why it's so cheap though, Hmmm. 'well for a parts boat it should be a decent buy.
