Yup ^^^^ Dry Runs ARE Highly Recommended with the Clamps. It takes a bit to get used to how they work. Loosen the top bolt to tighten the lower section of the clamp etc...

Thanks for the responses guys.

The CSM i ordered is supposed to get here today so I'm almost ready to pull trigger. I've been reading WOG's link regarding the transom install. I am a little unclear on one item. It says to make the CSM about 2" larger than the wood and then when the resin tacks up, to "Tear the overlap to make it hairy". Are we just trying to wrap the edges and tearing it allows us to lay the fiberglass over the edge?

You got it. Or you can cut it to fit and do the edges later or do the edges first and the flats second. Whatever suits your fancy. Are you gunna drill some OOZE holes??

Yes, I am planning to drill some ooze holes. Maybe 10 to 15 of them.

I don't think you'll regret it. They'll make your Transom super strong and ensure that you won't have any air pockets. Looking forward to seeing the pics of the installation.:D

Re: 1974 Ebbtide Restoration

My wife said the CSM came in today so I'm good there. We'll see what I can get done this evening.

Looks like your getting some of the same storm up there that we are down here. We sure need it or there won't be any water for boating.

Re: 1974 Ebbtide Restoration

The storm knocked out my internet so im currently mobile. Im bad at thumb texting. So ive drilled out holes in the transom where the thru hull bolts will be. Should I fill these with phone first or should I wait until the camera is on one side to fill them. My concern is getting air trapped in there. Any advice on the best way to do this step.

I would drill them a bit oversized and then let the PB ooze into them as well. Then Re-Drill the Correct size bolt holes. This way the holes will be "Glassed" and if they ever leaked it will be glass and not wood.

Ok, stupid question. I was getting everything together tonight just to make sure that I have everything ready to start glassing. I opened up what I thought was chopped fiber but it was milled fiber. I also have cabosil which i know is for thickening the resin. I went to go ahead and order some of the chopped fiber from usc but didn't see a listing for chopped fiber. Am i just missing it?

I dug some more and found the 1/4" chopped mat. I'm not really sure how much I'll need. They have a 10lb. bag so I'll go ahead and order that for now.
Now I'm curious. All the PB I have seen has used the 1/4" chopped fiber and cabosil. When should you used the milled fiber?

They do have it. Look under products and look in Fillers section down towards the bottom and you will see the 1/4 chop and 1/2 chop strand..

When You're needing a Creamier Blend that needs to be more easily spreadable. i.e. the Glue for the Transom.

Thank guys. Which would you recommend for PB that I use to fill the cutouts I made for the through-hull fittings?

Chopped strand! Adds more structure and toughness to the blend. You'll be grinding a bit on the outside and adding a couple of layers of CSM on the outside as well.

Had quite a few updates that were lost due to the upgrade as I'm sure most of you have. Instead of re-typing everything, I'm just going to post up the pictures to bring the thread current.

I'm planning on bedding the center stringer this evening when I get home from work.
