k, thanks guys. got some cork gasket material from store and a tube of permatex . both stated resistance to gasoline, so gonna make a gasket and go with a layer of permatex on both sides as suggested. did an ohm test on sender, it is goes from 245 ohms in empty position to 36 in full position. so thinking it works fine as that is what i learned googling it . only thing that has me wondering about it , is that it jumps around on meter while moving float arm instead of a smooth transition in ohm reading. am quessing it is ok, less anybody can shed more light on subject. thanks even hard to work with gasket and permatex here, as dipped below zero and highs of 10 above and lows of 5 below for the next few days. getting old now!
so i found some time and thought i should leak test the fuel tank. i bought it on flea bay and the guy said it tested out fine, but feel like i need to check it myself. i basically plugged the fill and vent lines, with some stuff sitting around garage and double clamped all at both ends. then i put a t in the threaded fitting with an acetalene guage ( reads small psi ) and a valve with air fitting. this way i can crack the valve and slowly get 3 psi in tank ( this is the number i have been hearing from other threads here ) also with the valve i am only checking for leaks on tank side , not my compressor or hose.
so i put a slow psi to the tank, and found a leak right away. the gasket on sending unit was leaking and after taking apart it is real dry and brittle. i was able to shine a light in the tank and looks real nice and clean. i will also do an omn test on sender, but looks and works fine. my question for you all is can i clean up the sending unit and tank where gasket goes real good and use a product like permatex gasket , instead of cork ( like was in there) the permatex would be more convinient and i think more plyable over time, and not dry out. any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated. am i doing this correct / is it safe to pump 3 psi into tank slowly / will permatex be a good way to go on gasket. my thoughts are test sender and if good put back together , try another leak test and hop she holds 3 psi for 24 hours, or spray with soapy water to search for other leaks. thanks
