I don't think you want the Gluvit on "thick". It'll just crack. You bought too much :p. 1 quart JUST did my 18' so you probably needed 2 but definitely not a gallon. You'll have to buy another boat.

If you shop around you'll find that 2 quarts is the same or more $$ than a gallon so you did well buying the gallon;)

You'll have to buy another boat.

And there is your solution ^^^^ on what to do with what's left over:D

I just saw your thread and even though you need to find a new drivetrain i still think you got a super nice boat.to bad you dont live near me in the northwest, with all the moisture around here theres a ton of glassers that are good donor boats.but you will find something.

EZ/Jas, yeah.. I'm gonna have to find me another aluminum boat just to use up the rest of that gluvit! hehe

Brenn... Man.. I know it I went a looked at a donor last night.. Man.. I just don't know, boat motor seemed to be in decent shape but the owner just was a little to shifty acting to my liking... Like when I asked how he felt about putting it in the water... His response was if you buy it you can put it in the water, I just don't have time.... Pfft.. I'm like WTF ever man.. Then you shouldn't mind my super lowball offer in a day or two and you can't part it out for more cuz.. as you said you just don't have time.. ugh..

Anyways fellas.. Off my rant for now..
Here are a few pics from the past few days of progress.... Here is the gluvit and how thick it looks ... What do you all think again?

Here is what I did last night after diggin some post holes for the neighbors deck he is putting up...
Hopefully this is enough weight for gluing those transom boards with that TiteBone III glue. It took the entire bottle.. I was sweating it thinking I was gonna be short when I started troweling it... It should be set up by this evening when I get off of work I hope to trial fit it and start sanding and prepping for epoxy.

you don't mess around when you put pressure on a drying glue joint! don't reckon there will be any voids there....

I like the easy button.. they were starting to look a little bow'd when I cut them and set them up for a few days.. figured why not.. got a tractor to just drive up on top instead of hefting around weight on it then again onces it's cured! I hope there aren't in voids.. as I notch troweled it well.... :)

Progress.......

I hope no glue seeped through the ply. Ease the clutch out easy just in case. LOL T think the transom joint will last a long time.

you can always show the kids that pic if they misbehave....."don't make me park the tractor on you!"

silliness aside, boat progress looks great.

Well, the tractor didn't stick to the plywood and wheelie up on me! whew! haaha

But I did get that transom all sanded out this weekend and test fitted again. Thing looks pretty dang good... I also broke out the epoxy sealant for the first time last night. I think I used about 6 oz of resin and 2 oz of catalyst. That pretty much only did a really thin layer initial layer. Prolly because the ply was really soakin it in. I'll be putting on a 2nd coat on the same side tonight and go from there.

I also got all my gluvit done, painted the inside hull of the cabin area and then did another coat of the rusto stone creations stuff on the gunnels... It's starting to look good man... Motivation!

My next big on is i need some advice on what rivets I need to buy for redoing alot of the stringers back to the ribs of the boat and what I'll need to get my aluminum decking put down? TIA guys!

How long do you all typically have to wait for that epoxy to cure? I done mine monday night and it still wasn't completely dry this AM. I thought it was a pretty thin coat myself....

As far as rivets go I was thinking I'd buy the #52 or #53 rivets for redoing the stringer to the ribs? is that sound right? And doing #54 for my floor to the ribs?

My epoxy dried overnight, 24hours tops and that was in winter with space heaters going in the garage prolly keeping it around 60 degrees.

SMG--

on your epoxy Q.....EZ is right, should be well under 24 hrs. try leaving it in sunny hot place (got a dead car around?) and recheck in a day. sometimes that will do it. you probably either mixed up the batch too "cold" (not enough hardener) or it didn't get stirred thoroughly enough (if you don't specifically stir around edges of mixing container thoroughly, it will sometimes get "pockets" of resin near the edges). if the heat plan doesn't harden it, mix up the next batch slightly hot and recoat; this usually solves the problem as i guess the catalyst in the 2d batch helps finally kick off the resin from 1st. ???? but it works.

Bararto2, Yeah I pretty sure I had it mixed up correctly. I double checked the pumps were pushing out an oz. per pull, on both resin and catalyst. I felt I stirred it up pretty well myself... along the edges etc. It's in my shop with the windows all shut. I opened them all up a day or so ago, and ti finally dried. I hit it with a sander and put on another coat last night.. and wasn't completely dry this am.. Could still stick my fingernail in it. Will update tonight when I get home to check.

Anyhows a few pics... showing me bouncing around on the boat depending on the weather.... :)

Here is how the gunnels look with the Ford 9N/2N tractor grey I had and used up in the inner cabin hull...
