Re: 1973 SRV 220 OV Resto

just to let you know i have access to a panel engraver at my work. i can make a switch panel for a very small cost of meterial. its the black uhmw that has the white bottom so all engraved marks show up white on black face. mine are getting cut this weekend, but i will attach my drawings.

mrdjflores,
You would have never been happy with a smaller boat.
Just keep the faith.
Take care

That is a cool looking boat, and already looks great in primer!

Are you using a DA or hand sanding?

Looks great!

Re: 1973 SRV 220 OV Resto

well, i'll try not too...
i've got the sides looking real nice, ready for some color...

i'm still contemplating if i need to make the bottom as smooth....this ain't no speedboat...so i cannot see a huge benefit to having the bottom as smooth as glass like on some of the higher performance boats....

Smooth bottoms are actually slower.

What a cool boat. That sucks that you are having to deal with your back while doing this. I know what you mean about the sanding... it sucks!

Re: 1973 SRV 220 OV Resto

the bottom has the texture of your typically painted wall in your house. i rolled the primer on (2 coats) and sanded between coats...but when i rolled it, i didn't come back and 'tip' it off...

i did the sides the same way, but in preparation for color, i sanded the primer on the sides, starting with 100 grit, going up to 320 wet

Sounds like it is up to you on sanding that. That surface may make for better speed/effeciency, due to the golf-ball like effect of breaking up the boundary layer. May not look that bad either, just like orange peel in factory car paint. I'd be tempted to leave it.

Hope the back lets you get her done, can't wait to see that hull with color!

That pic is def very cool. I do know that on autobody work, black is the worst for showing imperfections though. Have you thought about a white bottom? It hides the most! Maybe following the chine up around the bow for the paint line?
