Purchased this 73 starcraft starchief V. Pretty much anything that was made of wood was rotten and falling apart.

Welcome to iboats and the Starmada brighp2. Any questions that you have go ahead and post em up and someone will come along help you out. This bunch of loonies are pretty cool and you did the right thing by posting a pic. You will get away with that for now but only one will satisfy this crowd for only so long. Good luck on your rebuild and have fun with it.

Re: 1973 starcraft starchief V

ok im competely lost on how to do all of this posting stuff so bare with me if i screw it all up. Ok so if i do this right there should be a picture of the floor joists that i removed and reinforced with an 1 1/2 of red oak bolted to the orignal aluminum joists. I also moved them around an inch apart and increased the height around 1/4" to make room for the 30 gallon belly tank. Also i made bulk heads at both ends of the fuel tank.

Well i think i have this forum thing figured out. Ok next thing that i did was make three sections of floor out of 3/4" marine plywood coated with 10 oz fiberglass on both sides. The middle section of the floor will have T-nuts with machine threads so that it can be quickly removed to have access to the fuel tank. In front of the fuel tank there will be a storage area and can be seen and the top of the last photo i posted. Also i have some photos of the front engine mount, which i made to replace the old mount that rested on the bottom of the hull.

Alright moving on. Next I changed up the bulkhead to the cabin. I widen the door into the cabin and added a bridgedeck in front of the door. The reason that i widen the door was to make it easier to get in and out of the cabin. In the bridge deck there is an acess hatch to reach the storage compartment under the floor.

Next thing that i did was to make side panels. Again 3/4" marine plywood coated in epoxy. The orignal panels only went about halfway up the side of the boat. So i decided to change that too and made them go full length with three oval wholes cut on each side. The pictures are not the completed side boards, there will be an aluminum angle or something on that order placed along the bottom and attached to the floor. The black paint that can be seen is a paint on rubberized bedliner product that i picked up at lowes. The stuff is awesome, it is easy to use, easy to apply and is suppost to hold up really well. Has two down sides, one that it really stinks until it is dry and two it is hard to get off yourself if you happen to get it on you.

Last post for a little while until i get some more done. Build a trifold door made out of mahogany trim and sapealy marine plywood panels. The hinges on the outside are a lift off style and the middle panel uses a piano type of hinge. There will be more pics doors as i finish some more details.

Wow, extremely nice work! Welcome to the forum! My buddy has a 21' Chieftain outboard that we'll be working on this summer. I already had gotten some good ideas from this thread.

Excellent work brig, I like your customization and mods. That cabin looks inviting with the huge door now. Makes it easy to run out and grab a pole when the fish bite:)

What motor are you working with?

Nice project(s). What's the story on the '53 or '54 or'55 Ford pick-up in the background? I had a '55 as a project at one time. Marriage and kids put the kabosh to that, didn't have the time or money to finish it the way I wanted to....

Re: 1973 starcraft starchief V

good eyes DJpeters! yeah thats a project my father and i have been working on for about 12 years. Its a 55 F-100 that we are making into a 4x4. Used a one ton 56 grain truck frame that we cut, if I remember right about 14 inches out of the middle. Lets see then we took a 75 F-250 and robbed the axles and transfer case out of. Then narrowed the axles, converted the rear and front axles to Disc brakes. We are building up a 460 with custom pistions, a four bolt main block and Police interceptor heads. The transmission is a five speed new venture 4500 series. There is a lot of other things that we have done to it too. I'll try to post a few pics of that of that project too. Hey if you know any one that is interested i have an extra cab, frame, doors, etc...

That sound like a great project. Good luck with it. I am finding I like this boat restoration because it's cheaper, and as you know, won't take me half my life to finish. Let's hope not.

More pics of the truck would definetly be cool.....

Here's a few of mine as it looked when I sold it...I'm sure some day I will come to regret that.....

Not much to look at right now because its all torn apart because i just had the fame blasted and then painted it so we are slowly putting everything back together, pluse it got put on the back burner for a few months while we get this boat up and going.
