Yeah that's a huge amount of paint, you must be giving her 3 coats.

two coats primer - three coats white.

Question, Tractor supply does not have a navy blue enamel. Can anybody recommend a brand enamel that I could use over the top of the white for my boot stripe. I used hardener on the white and would like to do the same for the blue.

Rusto has a Royal Blue, don't know if it's close to Navy blue.

International blue tractor paint should be darn close to navy.

Rustoleum topside marine has a navy, but it's only sold by the quart. I've seen it at Lowes.

THanks guys, found Rusto Marine Navy Blue at Menards. Does anybody know if it is compatible with hardner?

Need a group opinion on how I finish the cabin sides.

The area of the cabin behind the windows is on large chunk of white tin.

1. Trim the perimeter about one inch in from the edge and paint the entire surface blue.

2. Paint a 1-2 inch trim ring around the perimeter leaving the inside white and then applying a "Starcraft" stencil.

Yah, I like the idea of a matching blue patch in that spot. That's what's on most of the big boats factory and that's the direction I was headed with the Islander (before her head came off) :thumb:

If the rusto topside alkyd enamel, the hardener is perfect for it.

I like your idea for the panel. It will look more like factory than a big white panel and will tie into the boot stripe.

Caught the crud so was down most of the week. I finally got out to the shop today and put on the first coat of blue. The good news it is the right shade. The bad news is it a different brand(rusto) than I have been using and I don't think I thinned it correctly so have some pretty severe orange peel. It looks like some serious hand sanding is going to need to occur.

Sorry about the crud Steve... seems that stuff is going around.

If you have orange peel (and not fish eyes), you just need to paint wetter. Do this by turning up the paint or lowering the pressure.

This rusto paint is very forgiving. You probably could have gone right back over the orange peel with the second coat and made it look good.

When I do the accent stripe, I shoot a light coat and when I finish I go back to the starting point and shoot a second coat. It lays down real nicely and if it's still too wet, run your gun over it with just the air and no paint then give it a try but it should tack up and be good for the 2nd coat. I then wait about a half hour or 45 min and peel the tape before the paint dries so you don't pull off paint from the painted surface.
