Boat was donated by my neighbor who didnt have time to restore or make seaworthy so the beginning starts here .. lots of work and $$.. as it was given to me .... Thanks Randall!

Future endeavors include transom replacement, 75hp merc runs well low hours, needs a tune up im sure, some minor hull damage ive already started tackling, as well as new floors, these were toast! Its a 2 year project im sure

We should get you moved over to the Starcraft boat section. Bunch of tinheads there to help you out who are very familiar with these boats.

Overall she is in great shape! The strake being the worst, does the hole go all the way through the hull?? Either way its patchable. The strakes are not water-tight anyway.

The 75 merc should be a great motor for it. I see all the trim is there, and minimal scars of people poking holes for stuff. You have yourself a great canvas to start with!

Welcome aboard 1978 stabler. I had a 1973 that looked very much like yours. You are very fortunate to have such a great gift.

another cooler overcast day, tore out most of the rotted floor and styrofoam, another 4 ft to go..... also put up a complete cover so entire boat out of the direct elements.... bought a gajillion dollars worth of Gluvit and spot filler for the hull after a good scrubbing and minor patching we will seal her up!

Actually on sale at Costco 179.00.... really stout and is all walled in w windows but i chose to be more accessible leaving one side open...

got the last 4 ft of flooring/deck out from under the consoles. wire brushing all the seams and rivets then applying 2 gallons of Gluvit.... should be more than plenty to seal up and lil sucker holes and cracks...

Thats a lot of gluvit! Are you coating the whole bottom? Think I only used 2 pints of coat-it, same thing, and still had some leftover just hitting each rivet with a splotch, plus seams.

Just keep the can covered with some plastic wrap or it will start to thicken on you as you work.

I actually bought some Coat It because its way more reasonably priced so waiting for shipping to get moving and send it out west..... was on sale for a gallon @ 49.99... at JB Tools( better than 166 bucks), I have a lot of hull problems so fluxed and braized minor problems w Map Gas turned out well

and yes will cover entire hull with it ...no stone unturned

Awesome! I will say Im not disappointed with the coat-it on mine. It makes it ugly to paint unless you sand it down. Same with removal - paint remover didnt even phase it. Sanding it off is the only way to remove it. The PO of my boat coated the whole underside of the hull, which coat-it says is no problem, then I sealed the rivets only on the inside, and touched up the outside broken rivets. Stuff is tough!! Beaching the bow on sand hasnt done much to it either so Im confident to say you made a good choice. If you have hull problems, it will help a lot!

Did you coat the inside of the hull with coat-it or the outside? I was thinking about doing both. I have a few small leaks and I figure that might help with fixing the issue as well as stopping future issues.

If I had an old boat with a well worn hull and numerous tiney leaks, I think doing both in and out would be a good idea !!

Entire bottom of hull below the waterline, which is unnecessary actually, was coated on mine. But my hull was in good shape, no pinholes or corrosion, just had a bunch of rivets that popped due to (PO2) hitting a log. PO coated it all. Then I coated all the rivets on the inside below waterline.

I am doing my first boat restoration and I have been kicking around the idea of coating inside and out. I am going to strip the floor and set it in the water to see what my leaks look like then go from there.

first board back in the hull, waiting for my extra long rivets to arrive to fasten wood to my 1/8 inch thick crossmember (replaced waffer thin factory one) old one toast.... good plywood is no joke, CASH was king bought some double sanded waterproof glue B grade from a lumber yard in WA for 25 buck ea. fair price for almost 3/4 inch, definitely no more sag, very stout!!! sealed up hull with COAT IT all seams and rivets attended to and then some!!! I will seal up the wood or roll it on at some point during the process but for now Im pretty happy with the progress... my neighbor (who gave me the boat) is thinking i woulda thrown in the towel by now, but im in way too thick at this point
