I'm still here and lurk quite frequently. The new hanger, err.. house, has become a blank slate for new projects and the Nova has been left in storage for the winter. I'm in the midst of mudding and taping the garage, then its onto the cabinets and storage, before I bring the Nova back home. Getting anxious to finish her up and get her on the water...then start on the 16SS that I've been paying more to store than I have invested in the package:eek:. That OB Chief over in WI that someone posted on the CL thread really got me thinking, but I'm trying to exercise a little self restraint and finish what I already started. Hope everyone is well!

MBS has no self restraint! Why should you, MN? LOL

Looking to you back working on the Nova and starting up on the SS or Chief.

Your boat space could benefit from a yard shed and I see you have a forced air heater there too! :)

T'is the season... Had a successful hunt in Iowa, now to finish off the garage shelving and tear back into the Nova!! I need to stop with all these other projects!

It's only been 15 months...but I finally got my house projects stabilized and the Nova cleaned out and ready for some love again. Man, that bare floor and wide open hull sure makes a nice storage area for all those things in the garage you don't really know what to do with yet:)

I'm mocking up my seating and pedestal placement. I have T-nuts and 1/4"-20 x 2" machine screws on hand that I had original intended for the pedestal mounting. Looks like my placement is going to interfere with the Z channel floor supports. My plan for doublers (1/2" ply under 1/2" floor) to add support for the pedestal mounting will not allow for complete capture of the entire pedestal base. Do you feel there will still be enough support if I just bring the doublers tight against the Z channel and sink a screw into the 1/2" floor and Z channel for the one impacted mounting hole.

Additionally, any pros or cons to using the T-nut/bolt attachment vs. face screwing through the 1" total of ply with the doublers/backers? The face screwing seems a little easier and allows for minor adjustment with the finished floor??

The main stress is front to back not as much side to side on helm seat pedestals so having to use a couple screws on the side isn't a big deal. To use wood screws for the whole assembly is up to you but I can tell you they will not stay tight in plywood and will rip out sooner or later, there's a tremendous amount of torque on them and vibration. Machine screws and t nuts won't fail unless the wood rots out.

2" long machine screws for 1" ply and the pedestal? The T nuts are counter sunk too so you'll have a whole bunch of machine screw going out the bottom. I'd use the 3/8" long t nuts and 1-1/4" screws with blue locktite.

But I have a box of 100šŸ˜ Maybe I'll beef up the backers to 3/4"...I think there is 1/4-1/2" of material on the base. I'm sure I'll have some protruding, but not so much as to hit the hull.

Have to share a little of my distractions that have been keeping me from progress on the boat... Spent the summer building the deck that was shared in a previous post. Spent the winter outfitting the garage with cabinets and shelving, including a safe enclosure for a little added safety and security...

Needs a little cleaning and organization...but it's freed up some space and time to get back to the tin.

Glad to see you're getting back on the Nova. I like the garage upgrades. Especially the safe setup.

Pretty boring stuff, but I know you all like pictures...

Doublers getting attached with Titebond 3 and some resourceful use of leftover decking and cases of water for clamping :)

Lots of raw wood waiting for Spar.

Painstakingly measured and marked my pedestal locations being mindful of placement and any interference with the floor stringers and hull ribs. The doublers are all 3/4" and will also serve as the backers for the pedestals.
