1. Run a pc of grey pvc pipe under the gunnel and run the hose through it.

Whatcha you guys think?

I like option one.

Near useless anecdotal info: my Jupiter had a copper line running under the floor from front to back. I bought a new fuel line, cut it, put the bulb end up front, and the other end in the back. Worked fine and kept my 85HP fed just fine.

Thanks for the info Ez... that's the one I'm gearing towards. Good to know there will not likely be any suction issues.

IM-- i think Gib is referring to PEX....looks like PVC but flexible so it's commonly called funny pipe. great stuff, easy to work with, bends to follow curves

Re: 1968 Starcraft Jupiter - Rebuild

My steering is still really stiff to turn. Better I guess then before, but it binds up at spots and is generally still. It is a teleflex system. It says 13 ft on it... and after a rough cut measure with the tape, it seams about right.

Seams to me, recently EZ provided a link in another thread for a steering system that come with a free steering wheel. Just can't for the life of me remember what thread!! Gonna need to order one.

After much thought on the seating arrangement, it has been decided to keep it original with the lounge seats. I may add 2 jump seats at the back for additional seating... just undecided. Really considered a lot... but open space for moving around and keeping the boat light where at the top of the list. Keeping it simple is one of the hallmarks of these types of boats --- so why muck with it.

I used one of those Uflex steering systems, it worked out well, and I plan on using another in my nova.

I plan on using pedestal seats to safe floor space

the Uflex is a nice unit but don't toss your old wheel. the one they supply with it is caca....it's worth what you pay for it.

I used the supplied wheel on both my boats. I have no issues with it. You'll need a wedge kit to clear the dash tray.

Thanks for the info/help and heads up guys.

Now interestingly ... I won't have a tray... Got an interesting dash design in the works....

EZ, you're an open minded soul. the thing has mold ridges that are sharp and is injection molded plastic throughout. yeah, it will steer the boat. no, it's not pleasant to have in your hands (and there's no part of your boat you'll spend more time touching unless you're a sick puppy like me and go out to stroke the hull at night....). i'll be re-using my old one with the alum spokes and soft grip rim. IM, if you don't like the way the uflex wheel feels when it arrives, PM me......i'll be happy to send you one of my spares. and for anyone who needs a wheel, the one from my uflex is available for free.

i thought the Finnish might slip past the censors but Jas is too sharp for me..........

B2 - thanks man for your input here and the spare offer. We'll see how it goes next week!!!

Just a quick update between Easter festivities. Hull dried out. Gluvit has been applied and is dried. Missing rivet head on transom brace has been jb welded. The 3 million holes along the gunells from the cover snaps have been riveted. The holes from the rub rail on the sides have been rivited and had 5200 applied. Dash gutted including steering and noodles/foamular installed. Basically a whole bunch of tasks that needed to get done... and now are done.

Dash, floor and transom dry fit and spar varnish are next. Really, really excited to be at the stage!!!!! :)

I'll throw some pics up tomorrow or Monday ... yah no.... proof that stuff got done and all. :D

IM out.

Noodles. Noodles. Noodles.

Ended up adding 2 pieces of foamular to top it up.

Floor and transom dry fit...

A line was drawn in the sand. The original dash is trashed from a looks perspective... but fine for structural backing. So I went looking for some nice wood. It shows you how often I look at nice pieces of wood (no comments here please...). So I decided on an option that was 9 times! cheaper than oak...

It's in process and there will be an a couple of features in the center shortly... Also, there are side pieces too.

We'll see how it turns out. Oh yah, yes, I did try it out to make sure my legs fit under it fine... which they did! The boards will get 6-8 coats of spar varnish shortly.

Sitwrap --- Basically, I am cutting, sanding and dry fitting all of the wood and bits. Once done, I will be applying Spar varnish.
Working on:

1. Doublers for floor
1.1 Transom motor mount piece
2. Alum face for transom.
3. Drill holes for transom
4. Finish Dash piece.
5. Make Dash pad piece

Then... Spar Varnish everything.

IM - Super!!!! I like the curved dash. I do think you need a tool up-grade. The hold-downs on the ends of the dash cap in the last pic are kinda tacky. Stealing from the kids rock crawler pile. Nice work, buddy.

Thanks Dood!!! Rocks and boats... not usually a good thing! But it works here in a pinch!:) Using the garden hose to mark the curve... that was not as easy... but it's what I had!!!

Nice shape to the dash, looking forward to seeing the completed helm. I agree that you get what you pay for with the steering wheels. I paid around $20 for mine on sale. It serves the purpose, but can be uncomfortable because the back of it isn't very well finished, even after I trimmed off some plastic flashing & sanded a little.
