Thanks Sheetmetal. Its been a journey but a fun one for the most part. This group has been a great help. There is a vast wealth of knowledge here and being surrounded by a community that appreciates these old boats provides a lot of motivation to continue progress. There is something special with these tin boats.

I order new wheels for the trailer. yesterday they were delivered, so I installed them as soon as I got home because I was taking my boy fishing. 5 miles down the expressway and BOOM!!!

I was forced to leave the boat on the side of the road while we went home to grab the old tires and a jack. It was rush hour and it took over an hour to get home and back. That was one of the most stressful hours of my life. Having something you have worked so hard for, sit in such a vulnerable spot. Everything was fine when we made it back but I will never leave without a spare again. I gained some grey hair from that mistake.

Yikes! 😬

Glad that noone was hurt and the rig made it back to dry dock in 1 piece!

Was the new tire rubbing on something?

nope, must have just been defective. I guess its possible that a piece of trash or something flew up there from the road but I couldn't find anything. I have never had a tire sidewall blow out like that before

Here is a nice video (above) and a couple of great photos from the last day out this year. hopefully we will get one more chance before I put her away for the season. If not, I cant complain, it was an absolutely perfect day. Engine runs like a dream.

OK.... Hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving, I sure did. With that out of the way and getting somewhat settled into the new house, I can finally get back to some work on the Holly. Built the new boat cradle 2.0, much more skookum and compact than the old one I threw together. After pulling the motor, and another successful dismount I was able to get the Ole Girl in the new space. The windshield wouldn't fit so I had to cut away a piece of trim (These are really small garage doors). I'm going to start the process of stripping all the hardware so I can prep everything for paint (fingers crossed I ordered enough paint). I need to add some insulation to the garage as well as other things to get the space ready as well but will post pictures of the progress along the way.

Nice workspace, should make winter go by a little faster working inside.
Its not bad, old garage was bigger but was hard to keep warm. the brick on this one really helps a lot. I think a good layer of insulation on the ceiling will allow me to maintain a good temp without wasting too much energy. Just need enough time to get the paint cured.

Strip down mode. Just finished pulling the windshield back off. It was quite the job, the Butyl tape I used is difficult to remove. I need to find a better seal before installing again. Currently removing the remaining hardware and marking holes that need to be filled. The weather is still pretty good here in KY so I am taking full advantage of that.

So after wasting a bunch of time, energy, and money on chemical strippers and the failed process of stripping the haul for paint, I decided to just hire someone to blast it. Man, I wish I would have done this a long time ago. Guy showed up to the house with his mobile blast rig and did the whole boat in 2 hours. charged me 450$ which at the rate I was going, I would have spent almost that much on chemicals, let alone the time. He used crushed glass and it put a really nice finish on the aluminum, just right for paint.

All Right, Took a little break from the boat for a bit but now getting back at it. Started by coating the entire boat with Interprotect 2000e epoxy primer. Now I just got the first of 2 coats of Interlux Pre Kote primer which after a sand, should give me a pretty smooth surface to finally lay some color.

Also picked up a 700w JL audio amp, (2) 7.8" speakers, and (2) 10" Subs to round out the sound system. Its sounds incredible right now with only one of the JL subs hooked up so I might just stick with one. Really need to see how it sounds on the water before I determine that part. I am really surprised with how little vibration rattle I am getting when its turned up. its very clean.

Looing good for just a coat of primer. Got to hand to you guys who sand boats, for me it's avoided at all costs with my one day paint jobs. :)
Think I would rather strip paint and feel the burn than sand it. 😆
