Hmmmmmmmmmmm, is it my browser (FireFox) or iBoats, but not a single pix in this thread showed up, either as attachments, links, or photobucket pix??

Edit: Reloaded this thread in an IE tab, and there were jpeg files shown but no pix. Since I wasn't logged in, it wouldn't let me open the pix, but when I logged in, the pix disappeared:confused: Oh well.......

From the sounds of it, ya got a nice rig. Best of luck on your rehab

There was a problem with iboats hosted pictures for a bit there. I'm seeing them all now.

So i tried my hand at pinstriping this past weekend. Not as easy as it looks on TV. I got through 2 of the flame edges and they looked terrible. So it looks like i'm gonna have to pay someone to fix my mistake, hopefully the pinstriping guy i found can just paint a nice thick line over my third grade looking ones.

Its been a while since my last post. Too much work to touch the boat.

I got the boat pinstriped for $120 which i don't think was too bad of a price. After it got pinstriped i put another 2 coats of clear, and spent about 2 days wetsanding the hell out of my horrible orange peel.

Here's a pic of the hood where I taped off a section so you could see the difference before and after the buffing. And a good pic of the hull from far away hooked up to my truck

I rewired my trailer too, next step is to finally start working on the inside.

Regarding your previous question on the steering- I have the exact same boat and I did have to make a spacer to mount the uflex rotary helm. Its needed because the wheel will rub on the aluminum tray below the dash. Not trying to contradict what was posted above. There are some variations with these boats and its possible you won't have to. Just know that you might. Either way it was super easy to make.

And fyi- you will not regret switching from the pulleys to the rotary helm.

Thanks - My boat does have the aluminum tray so i'll probably have to make a spacer, or i found an tilting helm, which i think would work too.

After months of procrastination and $26 worth of rivets, I finally got the floor in. And the carpet on.

But it looks like my dream of racing my starcraft is out of the question. LOL :D

Nice Flames!! Reminds me of a chopper I used to have back in the late 70's.

Keep up the good work.

Looks like you're making good progress, it's always good to see another Jet/Jet Star. I left the dash tray right out of mine in the end to provide more knee room & after a season of use, I'm glad I did, it's pretty comfortable. I also used the 10? wedge behind the steering wheel that gives just a little better angle to the wheel. If you keep the dash tray, the wedge kit should let you clear it easily. You can use either wedge (10 or 20?), or both for 30?.

I already bought the 20 degree wedge, I had thought about removing the tray, but since i am putting in a stereo that uses an ipod it will be kind of handy for placing the ipod.

Re: 1967 Starcraft 15' Jet Star Restoration

For my seating I had originally planed on ordering a set of wise small craft seats that have an 8" base, but I mistakenly ordered a set of regular wise seats with a 10" base from wal-mart.

Now i have to make a choice. Do I?

A. Return the 2 seats to walmart and buy the small craft seats from another website for $20 more each.

or

B. Chop down the base of the seats I have. (giving me the option to go possibly lower than a 8" base possibly a 6" - but also possibly loosing the functionality of the laying flat which honestly i doubt i would ever use)

Though the boat is hardly close to being done when i place the seat in the boat the seat cushion is almost level with the gunnels which seems way to high to me especially for the hod rod look i'm going for with this boat

I'm lookin for some advise here. Any opinions just put them out there. Thanks

Might post some pix of them in the boat for reference....

Your talking about a back to back lounger seat set w/ a 10" rectangular base? Correct?

Re: 1967 Starcraft 15' Jet Star Restoration

Well I never quite got those pics of the seat heights. Sorry. I got a little sidetracked with other projects and work. I finally got some time in this weekend to do some much needed work.

I began working on the dash setup however i ran into a pretty big problem. The wood I used for the dash is called Iroko. I was going to use teak but found out the cost of it and was told iroko was a common teak substitute and decided to use that. Still cost me $35 though.

My issue is after i had bought it, got it plained, cut it to shape and cut out the steering hole I did a little reasearch on the wood and found out that it is nearly impossible to paint or stain without peeling occuring within a year even in the best situation.

I would just leave it raw but it turns a nasty grey brown color and it doesn't go well with my boat at all.

So I want to try and make a dash cover out of a white plastic or something. I looked around lowes but couldn't find anything. I thought about diamond plate but its a bit pricey and i wouldn't want to do all of the cutouts.

Any suggestions?

Also got my transom all painted up and put in

20121216_154138_zps9d8938a1.jpg

And polished all of my through hull bolts. :D

I have decided with my seats to definitely chop them down another 2-4 inches to get the look i want and fit my legs under the bow easier.

Hopefully I can find something to cover my dash with so i can start wiring.

I have to think there's gotta be some sort of sealer for that wood. I'd ask the fella that sold it to you on how to finish it.
