Man your project really came along nicely!!!! Really like how everything has turned out. The trailer is defiantly a nice touch!!! I installed a swing tongue on my project, but it was for storage reasons. Really like it and was easy to do

Days 40-42:

I took the boat to Toledo for the weekend and me and my dad pretty much finished it up. It was nice to spend some time with him and he definitely helped me out on a few things making it better and easier.

First, we put the swim platform on. I supported my to rails with 4"x4", quarter aluminum plating and needed to make sure where the plates were going to be so I could mount the remaining wiring for my blower, bilge pump, etc. I bought a Plas-Teak platform. It's a composite and requires zero maintenance.

Then, I relocated my blower, reinstalled my transom cap and routed my blower hose. I used 2" PVC and blocked it of with aluminum screen to keep bees/bugs from flying into the opening through my cowl vent. I have a 4" to 2" reducer that my blower hose is routed to blow into, but I did not rigidly connect the two. I have the hose suspended with zip-ties, leaving a gap so the boat can naturally ventilate through the same cowl.

After that, we installed the transducer for my depth finder. It was pretty straight forward. I didn't want holes in my newly welded aluminum so I used 5200 to secure the wire to my transom. I put a dab down pressed the wire into it and then shot a line across. It seems to have worked pretty good! I am happy about that one! No holes in my aluminum.

Then, I installed my new HIN plate, and the Blower Warning decal on my dash which is required by the Coast Guard. I had an aluminum bracket made and put it right on my dash above the key. I think it gives the boat a rugged look and I like it. My dad said he don't like it up there though... oh well...

Then we installed my new cleats, which I love the look of. They have a nice classic look. We added two right behind the windshield. It'll make launching and retrieving a lot easier, and I don't know how/where they've been tying fenders for the past 50 years on this boat.

We re-built one side of my engine cover that was rotted and installed that and the jump-seats. It all fit in ok. The new engine doesn't fit under my engine cover very good. I am going to do an interior job on it, winter 2020-2021 and it will get a wider cover then. The flame arrestor is too far to the one side. Dad really helped out with the engine cover. I was going to do kind of a hack job. He definitely saved that one.

Then I put on my capacity decal. The vinyl kind of screwed that up a little, but again re-done with the interior job. Stuck a Starmada sticker in the window, representing!

As of now I have a fully functional boat. I need to take it for a test drive still. I'm hoping tomorrow is the day.

It still needs a bath, badly, and I have a really nice heavy Stainless Steel Taylor Flagpole to put on it.

June 1st it goes in to get a summer cover built for it and I am going to talk to them about putting my boat name on it somewhere. I think the starboard side of the transom, name and hailing port.

On a side note, I am absolutely loving the Boat Buckles! Awesome!

I have a boat again!!!!!!!!:thumb::cheer2::peace::rockon::smiley_simmons::humble:Now to test-drive it and make sure it all works.:grumpy:

Day 43:

I added my flag, cleaned it up, and loaded all my safety gear. He's ready for the test drive! Hoping he runs well (obviously). It cleaned up pretty good. Boat interior is extremely resilient.

Day - 44

I splashed the boat today, well the first splash that I've actually started it. Today was the sea trial. It wasn't the best day for a boat ride. It was pretty gusty, 1 to 2 footers with an occasional 2+ in there. The boat performed ok. I think my smart tabs were set a little aggressive for the chop that was out there. I was pushing a lot of water. Combined with the gusting wind it made for a pretty wet ride. My girls had fun. My wife commented that the boat doesn't ride as bouncy as it used to. It was my little ones first boat ride and the first one my 5 year old can remember.

The carburetor needs to be adjusted, which the shop in Wisconsin said it would. They wanted to do it for me but the lakes up there were still frozen when I picked it up. It's running pretty rich, a lot of backfiring and it won't go over 3700 RPM. I looked at it when I got in and there was a loose wire on the distributor. I pushed it back on. I'm planning on going fishing in the morning and I'll try to get the carb dialed in. Looks like I got the swim platform on right where it needs to be as far as the swing of the outdrive and waterline.

I was doing about 22mph at 2000 RPM and about 27mph at 3700, WOT for the boat is 4600.

That's great, even though the wind made it choppy it looks like everyone had fun on the cruise :thumb:

Day 45:

Well, I went to go fishing yesterday and my boat wouldn't start. I pulled the engine cover off and my flame arrestor was dangling. It broke off of the carburetor taking a chunk of my new carb with it.... The engine cover was too tight of a fit. I'm going to have to build a wider cover, get the carb fixed, and I'll have to rebuild the jump seats. I'm not going to get too fancy. I'm going to keep the same design for the engine cover and keep it simple for the jump seats. I still intend to revisit the interior after next summer. It really sucks about the carburetor though. So far everywhere I looked online doesn't sell that piece alone.

We still got out on the lake. I rented a little 15' boat from the marina. It was a beautiful day. Fishing wasn't very good though. The bait shop said nobody did very good. We got two crappie and a yellow perch. They said that was three more fish than a lot of boats brought in.

I already have my old engine cover torn apart, ready to copy for the new. I'm going to go 4 inches wider, or so.

Watermann that's exactly what broke off. There's the threading and the three wings that stick out. It seems to be pretty clean breaks with no missing pieces but I don't know if a little crumb or something fell down in it. If something did get in there I think it could foul it and it won't run. The boat ran when my buddy held the arrestor into position, but as soon as he moved it, it stalled.

Update:

The boat's sitting in the shop to have the summer cover made. My summer cover is going to fasten at the base of the windshield, wrap over top of it and go back. I went with a darker red Sunbrella material. Sunbrella Canvas is supposed to be a good summer cover material. It's not heavy like my black Top-gun canvas cover. It's lighter and will allow it to breathe and dry out after use, during the season. I also had the carburetor fixed and they are going to re-upholster my new engine cover.

I am taking it camping for the weekend on the 20th, I'm hoping I have it back in time to take it, and re-do the jumpseats before then.

Day 47:

I got the boat back and I must say they did an outstanding job. It looks great in summer dress! I had them leave my cleats open so it can be moored with the cover on. They did great on the engine cover too. It kills me that the interior is going to be completely redone in after next season but I want it on the water so we can get some use out of it.

The admiral and I re-did the seats and they will work just fine for a couple seasons. They had to be brought in, because the new cover is about 5 inches wider. The canvas shop put the closest matching blue they had on the engine cover and my wife and I put the closest matching Marine Vinyl we could find at Joan Fabrics. The result..... A hodge-podge!!!! LOL. None of it matches. I have 4 different shades of blue for my interior.

Additionally, I had the canvas shop put my boat name and hailing port on the back of it. It surprisingly looks sharper than I thought it would. He did a great job on that one too!

It's named after a Vietnam Veteran who was killed in action, I specifically wanted a name that otherwise wouldn't get any recognition. I didn't want to name it after somebody who is highly decorated and famous. Originally I was more or less going to draw a name out of a hat, but my dad suggested his friend. So it's named Edward J. Cross after Army Specialist Edward John Cross who was a heavy truck operator in Vietnam, born December 8, 1947 in Toledo OH, died March 16, 1968 in Vietnam. A Vietnam era boat named after a Vietnam veteran who was killed in action.

I will upload pictures when the site is working.
