Well got some stuff done, deck fitted and installed, bulkhead ready, boat hung, trailer bearings replaced and starting to prep for paint. Had big storm and had no power yesterday (18hrs) here's a few photos

Now there's some tough work behind you! Looking good so far, now that you're at the hull repair stage, just be sure examine the rib ends closely for any signs of cracking.

Well trailers looking good I think. need to tighten a few things when adjusted to boat. I'd like to change bunks in the rear, wonder if they could be mounted to the roller frames? Will try different ways tomorrow. That's my little helper BooBoo, he only helps on nice days, a real fair weather sort.

Waterman---- Those cracks you had were mainly along the chine end of the ribs right? I take it they are caused by the from the sides flexing more than the more rigid bottom. The sides working in and out fatiguing the metal along that line of difference, causing the cracks at the rivets, the weakened area due to the holes. What kind of movement do these boat have most, side-wall flex or twisting of the whole boat, like twisting a paint stick by turning the ends in opposite directions? I don't see any cracks in mine yet.

No cracks in the chine area I just had small cracks at the rib ends originating from the rivet holes. It's caused by using the boat when the decking and side panels are compromised by rot and loose rivets allowing excessive flex. By design everything when in good shape there's not the risk of the rib ends working back and forth creating the cracks. The defect of the spray rail or chine as some call it cracking out the side of the boat was the big worry or the rib end cracks joining each other. Either event could cause a catastrophic hull failure.

To remedy this SC put braces in under the rib ends that extended up above the side splash rail effectively reducing the risk of cracking in the future. It could very well be that your Sunchief wasn't subjected to this sort of punishment by the PO(s). That's good news for you meaning you won't have to do any patching.

Thanks mine was sitting for 25 years and that?s when some of the wood went soft. Got any suggestion for swim platform height?

I sort of guessed where to put mine and ended up getting it right on the money. You want it just underwater when stationary and above when on a plane.
