I have days like that, where it seems like you have accomplished a lot, then you look, and there isn't a whole lot to show.

Who am I kidding....

Everyday is like that for me!!!

Nice job man:D

That is so true. I just have to remember its progress and I would enjoy it more if we were not setting record highs in the 90+ degree range:mad:. anyway I tried some stripper on the hull and it hardly put a dent in the old paint so I went to HD last night and got another brand and will try that as sanding is a PITA.

V8, Boat is looking real good. I also have a 63' Jupiter that I will be restoring. Right now I am in the stripping components stage. What u r doing here is a real big help. I will be following your resto all the way. Just wanted to add pics of my boat.

Re: Starcraft Progress

Another shot and now I am glad I removed the splash well as it was a lot easier to get in there and clean it really good.

3 knee braces in the back, semi v bottom. Looks like a Nassau to me, not a Jupiter.

Thanks guys, I am glad to see another 63 jupiter and good luck with your resto. the ID plate said jupiter on it and it measures out to be a jupiter so that's what I think it is and I can't slow down now as the weather is changing and I need to get the hull painted before it gets colder.:D

Hello all, I was out of town this weekend but I got home early and since it was a nice cool rainy day I took advantage of it and worked on the hull. I tried another paint stripper today and it still is not removing the old paint so I went back to sanding. I am guessing that I don't have to remove all the old paint if its that tough so I will sand and prime soon.

Yep..no need in killing yourself to remove the old paint if it is just faded and dull..Only these guys that got blistered peeling flaking paint had to strip to bare metal...

So there's 80 hours of your life handed back to you! :D

Re: 1963 16 ft Starcraft Jupiter restoration

Ok I tried somthing tonight that worked well. I used the gasket remover in a can from napa. It worked great. I still had to sand it but it came right off after letting it soak for a minute. I use it on aluminum parts all the time to remove old gaskets and it takes the paint right off these parts. So i thought i would give it a try. I only have one coat of paint on my hull it took about 5 minutes to clean of a 2 foot square section. It cleaned the rivets and all. I cleaned it after using it. It looks great.

V8, take a look at my thread. I've stripped mine twice (don't ask) and I have found stripper and techniques that help.

Thanks FS, I just read your thread and was well worth reading. I am getting ready to go out and do some hull work so thanks for doing all the problem work so I don't have to. I will learn from your troubles and try not to do the same.;)

Re: 1963 16 ft Starcraft Jupiter restoration

hello all, a little progress today. I got some sanding done on the hull but had to quit as we had some thunderstorms move in and had to work on some other parts. I did finish priming the splashwell and painted the bottom with bedliner to give it some protection if things bang around in the area.

Re: 1963 16 ft Starcraft Jupiter restoration

V8 if your going to ZC any bare aluminum spots, it was suggested to me to wait 48 hrs after ZC to paint. I guess it would depend on what other primer you are going to use as to when to paint. I have heard anywhere from 8-72 hrs. You have to make darn sure there isn't any residue from the stripper left either or the ZC or primer may not stick. Now is the time for any JB weld also.;)

Re: 1963 16 ft Starcraft Jupiter restoration

Thanks FS, I hope to get this all done tomorrow and get the paint on next weekend as I am trying to beat the cold. I will most likely put it in the garage to paint so no leaves or animals get on it. I don't want our cat to come in with ZC feet LOL:D
