ajgraz;3733844 Go get a compression tester and test compression yourself. You might be getting jerked around. [/QUOTE said:
I agree. The whole "NO compression" thing doesn't sound right. A compression tester can be had for under $20 bucks.

Start with a compression tester first. No need to go buy any tools.

If the motor is toast (or broken beyond what you can fix yourself...or afford to have fixed)....save your money for a repower.

Unless you have a bad(dangerous) transom...the boat will get you through til next year.

Re: $1800 nightmare

Well. picked up the boat from mechanic number one today.. found out that the compression tested 100 on cylinder 1, 46 on cylinder #2 and , 22 on cylinder #3... Taking the boat to my friend mechanic on sunday so he can crack open the powerhead and figure out what the issue is. The mechanic I picked the boat up from advised me to get rid of the force.. he actually told me to try to sell the boat for what I paid for it.. even though he told me I over paid.. and take the first reasonable offer.

how much have you paid, and how much do you owe, the two mechanics? I'd get out.

Looks like a pretty nice boat. If your stringers and floor aren't rotted....shouldn't be too awfully hard to get her ship shape. Hopefully, your transom is fairly solid and will get you thru til next season.

Did you do your own compression check yet? Call the mechanic and ask him what compression numbers he got, so we have a ballpark figure on how bad(or not bad) your situation is.

The inside of the transom is not accessible.. It is I closed.. It looks like solid fiberglass ans the inside looks glassed really good. It looks solid as hell.. Compression however is 100psi, 46psi, 22psi. The floor is soft but it has a ski locker and what stringer I can see looks solid...

I don't believe the compression numbers.

You got a two stroker and you have a low of 22 and and high of 100 and there is no imbalance in oil delivery. Not impossible to see those numbers, but I bet the Merc mechanic gets different/better numbers when he checks the 2-stroker. People have been known to do them wrong. Get the mechanic to explain how he did the comp check, or simply wait for your Merc guy to do it.

Don't understand the logic. That motor has 3 carbs. It's quite possbile to have two carbs running lean and not the third.
