Re: $1800 nightmare
No.. I didnt change the impeller or water pump because the guy took the boat out the weekend before I bought it.. I guess the pump and/or impeller failed between then and the week I bought it..
Are you sure it was run the week before? Did you water test it before you made the purchase for at least 30 minutes?
Okay, here is the basic rule of thumb....... overheating happens. When it happens and how much damage is done is usually the fault of the owner....... It could be a real simple fix to be back on the water. It was stated earlier ...... impellar, headgaskets, I also like to toss in new plugs, do a de-carbonization procedure and get back on the water.
You should NOT be considering a new motor yet...... you should not be considering scrapping the boat either. I am very fond of the Johnson Evinrude V-4 motor however....... not fond enough to trash the current motor w/o proper investigation and repairs.
Get a manual <<<<< I really can not stress enough how important the manual is. I don't care who your mechanic is or what knowledge he/she has...... GET A MANUAL!!!!!
Many many many (thousands perhaps) pf people here have invested in Manuals, compression gauges, torque wrenches and assorted other tools and do all the work themselves and were absolute neophytes before they started.
Take a deep breath and do it!
