Bro,
Oh...My... If I were closer we'd be talking about that Chief. Haven't started the resto yet on mine because I have a good idea how much its going to cost to get it the way I want. I can swing the resto but powing her, canvas and gadgets can be huge $. It would be a shame to pull the top off yours. Don't do it man!!! A new deck is no big deal.

Here are a couple chots of my Chief. Smoker Craft said its a 69 or 70. I'll post more on my own thread when I get around to starting.

Hey Brad glad to see ya back on the site. That 18' SS looks like a great boat. It even comes with a ski pylon? That's a pricey item alone.:)

I'd run that 115hp on the SS and call it good. Get a kicker motor(5-15hp) for tooling around with to save some $$ on gas and just run the big one when you need to.

Yeah, it would be tragic to dismantle her. Mine is better shape than yours. My floor is usable as it, but needs to be replaced. I rebuild the steering help with Cedar. It looks great. Mine has a wall on both sides with an entrance into the cuddy. I don't know if you saw the first one i started with on this thread, but you might want to read about it so you can check yours out before you put any money into it. I still believe i want to sell her as much as i'd like to keep both. The finances just will not allow it.

Will that work? I have the 115 on the starcief but it is very heavy. Another 5 or 10 hp motor would cause the transom well to stay under water. The S.S. may be better balanced?

If adding a 50-100lb kicker makes your splashwell drop below the water line then you have other issues to deal with.

Adding a kicker to a Starcraft is quite common and I plan on running my 80hp Merc next to my 5.5 Johnyrude with no concerns about dunking the transom.

Do you have a photo of how the boat sits in the water? Sounds like maybe she's sitting low from waterlogged foam or other issues?

I'm not sure if you can use it, but i have a hatch lid off of the first boat. It is square with rounded corners. My newer boat has the tapered type. I'd be happy to send it to you if you can use it. I actually took it off last night as i took the "bad" boat to the scrap iron place today. It weighted 460lbs and brougt 207.00. That helps me break even on my first purchase which obviously did not work out. Measure yours if it square and we'll see if it works.

Brad,
Thanks for the offer but my hatch cover is tapered. I may be able to use my old one as a mold template.
Good scrap price.
Hope the BP spill gets cleared up fast! Feeling bad for you folks.

The PO started to take her apart including the original floor. No PT in this boat. I lucked out with my last resto. I used BC plywood and a 1 part penetrating epoxy because thats what I had. I didn't know the chems in the PT would attack aluminum. Your thread probably saved this Star Chief because I most likely would have used PT for the floor and transom. Thanks!

Yeah, i think that a way too much as well. it does have a ski tower (worth about 150.00) and the trailer is worth around 300.00. I would guess the boat to be in the neighbor hood of 4-500 hunderd in value. I would feel alright paying around 6-700 for the whole rig.

So very sweet,:p

The S.S. is still a couple of hours away, and i won't be able to go get it until tomorrow possibly even Friday. The great news is he said i could have boat and trailer for 600.00 being that i was a preacher and all. I didn't pour mouth or cheapen the ministry. He just offered. I'll have to check it out thouroughly, but i can't see anything deturing me from making the purchase. As soon as i get it, i'll start new thread on that project. I just need to get rid of the starchief now. I have no room for two. :):):)

I got her home. I will post the "Before" pics tonight and start a new thread for her. In meanwhile, the HIN is stra13121075-F6

I'll get the other info off of the plate later. Can anyone tell me anything about it from this.

Got the thread started on the SuperSport- Check it out, I'll be needing a lot of help. I know i could just probably follow EZ's step by step and be on a good pace, but the funds aren't flowing so fast at the moment.

BB, from your previous post I feel you'll be getting plenty of help from "up there". From down here you'll get moral support and best wishes for good luck with the "new" SS. Looks cool from the early pics - love that ski tower!

Yeah, the tower was a great bonus. I'll definitely be putting her back in there. As far as the help from above, absolutely. I am blessed well beyond what i could ask for in many ways.

From below, i really like the fellowship of you guys. It's really neat getting to know strangers and enjoying their progress as well as feeling their pain. THanks, i appreciate it all very much.
