Are you going to listen to us? You started another thread in Resto with the three posts above. What are you doing except upsetting us?

Bookmark this thread so you can find it the next you want to add to this thread.

You managed to reply to me in post #39, so there is no need and no reason to keep starting new threads. Any questions about redoing your must be in this thread. You can start threads in the proper section for motor, trailer, etc., but all questions about your SS stay here if you want help.

That's why Mods moved all your SS questions into your original thread - So we can help you, if that's at all possible!

That's odd to see so many solid rivet heads missing on a seam. Is that the bottom stern seam and how did the rivet heads get sheared off there?

Yes you have to repair that and the only way I know to do it right is to have access to the inside, not a place for blind rivets.

I had many similar to that once I started on mine. The heads were barley there. Literally fell off if you tapped them, hence why I redid the whole boat.

But to answer your original question, not sure what caused the aluminum to deteriorate like that. The closest I could say is it almost became chalky, if that makes sense. Caused by corrosion eating away under the paint.

Well for now I am going to patch the boat for now I had some stain steel 10x32 machine screws with button TOP heads they threaded in tight so I'll use them to tap the missing r rivets then replace them with alum ones and put lock tight and sealer on heads then hit the bottom of hull with gulvit for now,and restore at later date,if the doesn't come to end or if the government started to reopen boat ramped again I won't take anyone I would self icesoleate on the lake and would not come within more then 6 feet of anyone.back to the boat the paint seem to comes right off with a signal edge razor blade well at least on the sides the bottom I'll get stripper for and lam not sure I'll pull winsheld or make new tops for dash as they have.a lot of holes in them but all my resent work will have will have come back off.lowrance/raiod/downriggers/kicker motor and bracket... but I don't have any thing to do any way because of sickness go around be happy work on the boat!!! That's all for now stay well

Nova15A.jpg I had good success rolling on the paint for my Nova, but it was a matte finish duck boat paint that didn't really need a quality finish. There's a lot of good information out there on the roll and tip method if you decide to go that route. I'd make sure you give the area plenty of time to fully cure before putting any blocks under it, regardless of the application method you choose.

I found out I was better with an HVLP spray gun than a roller and brush. Sanding off a bunch of sagging, runny paint is not my idea of good times, been there.

There are quite a few paints that can be rolled and tipped.. They may cost a little more but it can be done.
Do a search on rolled and tip paints..
I do agree with waterman about using a HVLP but if you don't have a compressor the roll and tip is the way to go.

Thanks for the input on painting I am sure I don't want sand all kind of sags and runs,so I clean up the old spray gun is help,I might have to block her a little higher to be able to spray bottom after gulevit cures and it warms up a little more and I'll try to find post on rivets thanks again

That stuff under the original paint is outrageous, I believe it's alodine possibly.

Don't need to put gluvit on the whole bottom, just gives a place for possible corrosion to start when water gets in between it and the AL.

No alodine isn't white, that's something else that someone put on it.
