Hello everyone, i have just begun fixing up an old starcraft, just stripping the paint when i noticed they sealed with gluvit over the drain plug, it is just a hole in the back of the boat below the transon almost near the floor, there is no drain tube though, is that okay? it drips a tiny bit but i am assuming its because of the old plug and not the fact its just the hole. My questiuon is do any of you guys have just the drain hole and plug? or are you supposed to have a tube too...

No tube, all the water drains to the aft when the bow is elevated or you pull the plug on the ramp after you retrieve the boat. Then it just drains out.
A tube would cause some water not to be able to be drained.

Usually it is a metal tube of some sort? None of my boats have had raw wood exposed there.

what i meant is not the drain plug itself, but here the drain plug goes, is it just a hole right through the metal that just looks cut, or is there a tube or anything where the hole is that the drain plug goes into, the hole for mine is just right through the metal but no gaskets or anything attached to the hole, just making sure that is normal

All the small jon boats I have seen have a small tube that is flush with the bottom of the boat so the plug has something to stick to. the metal tube might be an inch or so long. But, it is flush withe bottom to allow all the water to drain. What type of hull is this? and posting pics of the area in question will help a ton.

il try to get a picture up soon, basically what triangle boater said, the location of the drain hole is at the botton of the transom part of the boat flush with the floor but not flat on the floor, BUT theres no tube or anything, imagine someone just drilled a 1 inch hole in it and stuck a drain plug in it...thats what it looks like, is that okay? if not i could probably just purchase a tube and epoxy it on? and then put my new drain plug in the tube which is in the hole

DSCN5137.jpg okay thats not mine, but that is what it looks like WITHOUT any ring or gasket, how shoulld i installl some sort of gasket? and do i need to? sorry about all the posts!

So basically you've just got a hole in the aluminum skin without any collar or anything on it? I'd want to have that collar there so the rubber plugs have more surface to seal to. I do not have an idea though on how to fabricate one. When I replaced my transom, I had to knock the old "drain tube sleeves" out and re-drill my transom for the new plug hole. I ordered the new sleeves and fittings to secure it from iboats. They come in plastic and/or alum, and are cheap. I would seal the drilled hole well with 3m 5200 so no water leaks into the transom wood, then slide the new sleeves in, ( I haven't done it yet on my boat) and I'm almost sure one end is threaded so you can get that drain plug sealed well. That's a perfect place for water to enter the transom area and rot your new transom out quick. I would seal all of it up really well with 5200. I think they make bass or copper ones too, but with an alum boat be careful which type you need.

The hole does require a plug, most of these are rubber and expand as you insert and turn them. Very basic stuff BTW
