Re: 14' Larivee restore
Oh my...where do I start to update ya'll? Well, again, let me tell you how encouraging your last posts were. Gave me great initiative to keep on truckin'. So a few days after my last post, I attempted(heavy accent on attempted) to lay one full piece of 1708 up the deck, transom to bow. M-I-S-T-A-K-E!! Now don't get me wrong, I absolutely love working with 1708, but had too big of a piece & too many "oh craps" to accomplish anything more than a lot of glass & resin in the garbage. First of all, I had specifically gone to get a piece almost exactly(within a few inches) of the length I needed. When I unrolled it, was short nearly a foot. Grrr! to my local supply store. Second, my new scissors from Harbor Freight that I only used once, wouldn't cut a woodpeckers feather. Third, when I pre-poured my resin out into several containers to be ready for the layup, unknown to me until too late, there was a crack in the pour spot that I pulled up out of the bucket, and you can guess what my garage floor looked like after that dumped about a quart of resin. So, in regards to the deck, I ended up throwing in the white towel at about the half way mark & starting later with another piece of glass. Just too much for this old girl to do all at once. It was catastrophic that day, but by the next, I had then laid over the deck puzzle pieces of 1708, CSM down one side, across the deck, & up the other side. MUCH easier lay-ups. So we are all glassed in. I guess I'll post a pic or two, but you all know what that looks like. Now for the really bad news. Had an occupational injury this week. Possibility I tore up tendon in my thumb, right hand, of course. MRI yesterday. Hand surgeon on Monday. Possible surgery. This could grossly slow down this build. Poop! Wood-did you have a crystal ball when you posted that "thumbs up" in your post couple weeks ago? Seems if I remember correctly, you were set back during your build with a knee problem. Man it's just hell to get old.
