Re: 01 Bass Buggy blows starter fuse with switch off
I ran into the same issue with mine after a year. Each time it would blow instantly. Turned out to be a short in VHF. As soon as I plugged that in the main fuse would blow. I forget the amp size but it was next to the battery in the motor power cable. Tried fixing the VHF radio and it still happened. Got rid of the radio and we are good for two years. Not saying yours is a radio but it might be something else besides the motor. I'd disconnect everything electrical except the motor and start turning things on one by one. Remove the fuses and replace one at a time with the ignition or bat sw off. when you find the it is the culprit. Easy way to start troubleshooting.
"A short in VHF?" VHF meaning the radio? I think you might be right. Since we've had it, the radio will turn on, but it doesn't work. Just lots of static. We didn't care because there's no reception there anyway. I'll try pulling it out. And when you say the main fuse would blow, I assume that's the 10 amp in the fuse cluster under the steering? I checked the main fuse on the motor and it's good. If not, is the main fuse you're referring to next to the battery an elongated red tube-like thing inline with the positive battery terminal line? Saw it, but didn't know what it was. It's a double case, so maybe the rest of it is a spare fuse. Anyway, I don't really think it's the motor either. And, if all that fails, your troubleshooting suggestion is very helpful. Thanks for your help.
