Dock-and-dine location around Long Beach harbor?

Any recommendations for a mid-level, good quality restaurant that we can dock at? I'm familiar with the harbor in general but not intimately, so coordinates or a Google link or something would be helpful, if you have it.

Prop choices for a 28' aft cabin cruiser

I have a 28' aft cabin with dual 350s (around 270 HP) and Alpha one drives, not counter-rotating. The boat spec weight is 7200 dry. I currently have four-blade aluminum props, but I recently repowered and need to go with a higher pitch. I like how the four-blades handle, so I will probably...

Mercruiser hard shifting, is it the switches?

I've got twin 305 Mercs with Alpha One drives. I've tested both shift switches and they do work (kill the engine). However, shifting continues to be stiff, often very hard, especially when hot (seems to be much easier when we first start the boat). The cables seem to function normally, and...

You can die for your country, but you can't get what you want on your tombstone

The government has decreed that a dead Marine who practiced the Wiccan religion cannot have its symbol placed on his tombstone. You can get a cross of course, but not "unapproved" symbols. Makes me want to feed a few christians to the lions.

You know you spend too much time talking to your boat mechanic when...

You recognize all the employees' voices on the phone. Sheesh.

While we're on the subject, anybody got a good idea for a "thank you" token for mechanics that have gone way out of their way to be helpful, flexible and save me cash? I don't know if they boat themselves, or drink, so...

    Minimum wage enforcement

Hoist to swap a motor in a large boat

I have a questionable motor in my 28' express cruiser, and am planning ahead for when it blows and I need to replace it. Being so high, I don't know what I could use to hoist the motors in and out. Any ideas? I'm comfortable with the engine work itself, just don't know how to physically move...

What's the big secret at the local marina??? (Blocked satellite image)

A big piece of it is whited out in Google satellite images. Now, this is a mid-size local lake. Not like there's gonna be a nuclear sub being fitted there or something. Weird.

Boats, kids, fish, PETA

Three of these things go together, which one does not? I got some animal whacko hate mail about this photo of our boy catching dinner. I can't come up with enough insulting words for them. I think I may need to make up new words to really let them know how I feel.

But worst...when...

Drinking while anchored & the law

My state laws say you can't have more than a .08 BAC if you "have physical control of" the boat. If we anchor up for the night and break out a bottle of wine, could we be arrested? Seems possible. Who is in "physical control" of the boat? Seems rather undefined.

Do big boats need to be tied at the transom?

My 29' Express Cruiser has no provisions for tying down the back. I always read things saying that it's critical to tie down the back of boats, but they never mention sizes. Does it matter for a boat this size? And if so, how do you do it?

    Advice on replacing u-joings/gimbal bearing/cables

I have a dual 5.7/Alpha One that has bad gimbal bearings and u-joints due to water intrusion. The drives are off (removed by the dealer for insurance estimate). They estimated $3k for both with parts and labor (about half and half). I'm going to get the $3k from the insurance, then the...

Spec sheet weight vs. reality and two motors?

I have a Wellcraft 28' cruiser which is specified as weighing 7200 pounds. However, there were options for a single engine or two, and no other weights listed. I have two engines. Would the 7200 figure be with one engine? And if so, how much more would another full drive system weigh?
