    Hmmm... I bought mine from Summit about two years ago, so they have (had) it. I believe there are two types for the 470, one with the bowl on top, one with the bowl on the bottom. I have the one on the bottom. Maybe that will narrow it down

    Stupid question, but I'll ask it... Based on this statement.. when you say "master switch" are you referring to the "battery switch" or the "ignition switch" (key)?

    I don't fully remember either. But, I think a lot of problems with the pertronix comes from not having matching coils and not installing or wiring correctly

    I thought pertronix needed full 12 v to work My pertronix needed a full 12 volts and a 3ohm coil. Resistance wire deleted

    Perhaps pull the dizzy and turn the pump with a drill and long hex rod, see if it duplicates the noise. I used that method to prime my rebuilt 3.7 before firing up

    Sounds like it coming from the back of the motor. I would pull the drive and run it, see if the noise goes away

    I've spent a lot of time n the water at night fishing all Narragansett Bay to Block Island. Never was much afraid of it, but always cautious and alert!
