Still trying to make it run, trying to make sure the timing is correct.

First time dealing with them. When I first opened the motor up, it looked like it had the originals in it. the outsides had just crumbled. I am going to buy a cap meter, and recheck the condensers. In another life, I used to work on an Mk25 Fire Control Radar system and when I saw a cap sweating...

    Yes, the motor would help. It is a JW10 1953 - 1954

Still trying to make it run, trying to make sure the timing is correct.

I did find one tonight, that showed the throttle/Timing lever to be pushed to the far right, looking from the front of the motor, or at total advanced. to set the points with a meter.

Still trying to make it run, trying to make sure the timing is correct.

I work on this until I get mad, then wait a few weeks then start again. It started and ran fine for a little while, then stopped and would only run for a few seconds. I had used a carb kit with what I would call a rubber-type bowel gasket and when I took the carb apart I noticed that it was...

    JW-10 will start, then die.

The points will arrive today and I will pull the top off, and check the key and key-way when it comes apart. Thank You.

    JW-10 will start, then die.

It flows very well. I actually removed the tank and let fuel run into a large glass jar, and the fuel ran at a very good constant stream, for three or four minutes, it did not seem to be impeded at all. When I did the other work on it i removed the valve and cleaned the assembly with the filter.

    JW-10 will start, then die.

I removed the prop since I am using a 35 gallon barrel and last summer when i tried to use it the motor seem to get to hot and shut down quickly. and the tube from the fuel to the carburetor got really hot, i believe because with the small can, it was getting cavitation. It does not help that it...

    JW-10 will start, then die.

When I put the carb kit in, I removed everything and soaked the metal parts in Berrymans chem dip carb cleaner. before reassembly I used air from my 220v air compressor at the same time using a brush kit for small carbs with the wires that you can run down small passages. I did remove the cap to...

    JW-10 will start, then die.

I took off the prop of my Jw10 to run it and make sure it would work before I a couple of hours to use it. It started fine, water was coming out and it was idling and would come up to a higher speed. adjusted too far and got a miss-like sound out of it. Then it shut down like it was not getting...

JW-10 starts runs for a a minute or two then shuts off, can restart but shuts off quickly

Did a compression test, and have 70 in each cylinder. This was dry, the fuel off, and has not run in two weeks.

JW-10 starts runs for a a minute or two then shuts off, can restart but shuts off quickly

New impeller, good key and is pumping steady water. I will try the bubble filter. Did try to run it with the gas cap removed no difference. Did do a blow test that used compressed air and was just putting my finger on the needle slightly and it easily seals, and lifting my finger up off of the...

JW-10 starts runs for a a minute or two then shuts off, can restart but shuts off quickly

I wonder if running in the trash can and heating up, is possibly causing a vapor lock in the fuel system. The tube from the fuel tank to the carb, is definitely very warm when it shuts off, not enough to burn, but very warm. I am doing this in my garage here in Phoenix AZ. So we are at 105+ when...

JW-10 starts runs for a a minute or two then shuts off, can restart but shuts off quickly

I bought it a year ago with a boat from 1963. The Spark plugs looked like they were from the 50 maybe 60's the coils were so old they were all cracked up. So I have no idea how it ever ran before. I was wondering about the turbulence I am running it in a 35-gallon trash can with a lid on it to...

JW-10 starts runs for a a minute or two then shuts off, can restart but shuts off quickly

Thanks for the Reply I did pull the plug on the low-speed circuit and made sure the holes were clean, pressed the new plug in with a punch, but not too hard. Then put an unneeded small film of RTV on top. As for the fuel filter in the tank that was mentioned, I did run a visual flow test on it...

JW-10 starts runs for a a minute or two then shuts off, can restart but shuts off quickly

The JW-10 has new coils, new condensers, plugs, and plug wires, Plugs are gapped, points have been cleaned and set. New carburetor kits. It was disassembled, soaked in carb cleaner in the can overnight. Ran down the carburetor passages with a wire tool and clean with air from the compressor. I...

    JW10 no spark problem?

Bad eyes. I was touching them up with a jewelers file. Switched to some passes with emery cloth. I have the continuity on both sides now. will check timing tonight and see if we can get it going. One question, I will set the points gap, then look for timing with the meter. What I do not...

    JW10 no spark problem?

Crosbyman, led to a find, I do not understand what caused it. since the surface of the points looked good. I have no continuity across either of the points when they are closed. Even after cleaning them up, It is not constant enough to trust. Time to order a new set. Cannot believe my lying...
