    1993 Maxum 2300 SCR windows

Anybody know where to get replacement topside windows? Or would I be better off having a local shop fabricate me new plexiglass windows?

    Working During Winter

Hey guys I had an idea form in my head about working on the boat during the winter. My boat has a multitude of problems that ill be asking more about in later posts, but I had an idea for running the motor and not having to re-winterize every time I fix something and need to test it. Would...

    Bad coil?

I don’t have a spark gap tester, but it is definitely getting fuel because I can smell it getting really rich a couple minutes before it dies, then I can’t start it for 10-20 minutes. I’ve already gone through (I believe) the whole fuel system - I checked the pickup tube, anti siphon valve...

    Bad coil?

Hmmmm now I’m not sure, points ignition means it has points and condensers right? Honestly I’ve been assuming the whole time that TB IV was the points ignition.. here’s a picture of my distributor if that helps No I haven’t been able to find anything like that, and it’s a Jasper rebuild so I...

    Bad coil?

I believe I have a bad coil. I have a 1993 Mercruiser 5.7 Thunderbolt IV with the point ignition, does anybody have the specs for what my coil should be reading? I have a pertonix coil but it’s not labeled so I have no idea what OHMs is should be reading at.. I’m wanting to go back to OEM so if...

    5.7 Mercruiser stalls out

Ok thanks again for the help Scott I’ve got a couple stupid questions, I’m having a hard time setting the timing. With the thunder bolt iv, do I need to have cylinder 1 at TDC, and is there an easier way to do this with just one person? Turning a wrench and trying to feel air through the spark...

    5.7 Mercruiser stalls out

Yes, waiting on parts from the marine store, I hope it’s not the ignition coil because that’s on back order till mid September..

    5.7 Mercruiser stalls out

Ahh I see, thanks for the info. It’s not a no start issue, it runs for about 5 minutes at idle with no load, then stalls out I’ll clean the ignition sensor today and reset the timing

    Missing bolt behind motor

What about the driveshaft? I remember them telling me it was groved, so they replaced it and a couple seals where gear oil was leaking. Sorry I should have added that info in my original question but I forgot about it

    Missing bolt behind motor

Yep.. definitely gonna get this thing fixed asap, I don’t think my bilge would handle that amount of water coming in haha

    Missing bolt behind motor

Well damn, the last owner had a jasper rebuild put in 3+ years ago so I wonder if it happened during that process. I’ve had the boat for a year myself, lucky it hasn’t gone yet.. yikes

    5.7 Mercruiser stalls out

I’ve got my fuel pressure tester, I just need some adapter to fit on my 3/8ths line. Problem is I can’t really test it “under load” without getting stranded on the lake.. once it stalls out, it’s pretty hard to get it started again (most of the time)

    Missing bolt behind motor

I’ve been having issues with my 5.7 and while I was looking behind the motor, I noticed a bolt was missing from what I’m assuming is a water line. I’m wondering if this would’ve happened when my mechanic replaced the bellows earlier this season. The other bolt and hose clamp looks pretty new.

    5.7 Mercruiser stalls out

I come armed with new information once again I was out at the boat yesterday and I think I may have found the issue, or at least part of it. The distributor cap and rotor don’t seem like the correct part for my motor, it has a vacuum fitting behind it with nothing connected, also the plug wires...

    5.7 Mercruiser stalls out

That’s what my thought was, but I’ve run through and tested everything in the fuel system I can think of. Im thinking ignition now but I don’t even know where to start with that

    5.7 Mercruiser stalls out

Well I took the fitting out of the (old) carb and it was completely blocked, so I cleaned it out thinking it was a fuel vent, and after that it ran fine for another ~5-10 hours until it started happening again. I don’t remember ever seeing fuel in the line though. Could this have something to...

    5.7 Mercruiser stalls out

So I've been having this issue for quite some time, i've checked everything I can think of - new carb, new fuel pump, sparkplugs, plug wires, distributor cap + rotor, checked all the fuel lines, pick up tube screen, fuel filter, anti siphon valve, fuel tank vent, but nothing seems to actually...

    Can’t get on plane

Oh cool, I was worried about it leaking, I thought I saw some kind of rubbery material on the threads but it was so loose it didn’t seem like it was doing anything anyways. Thanks for the help!

    Can’t get on plane

Ok good to know, what should I use instead?

    Can’t get on plane

Alright I’ve got some new info, I went out today and I was wrong. The pickup tube and anti siphon valve was not actually welded to the tank. The screen on the pickup tube had some algae but not enough to clog it, cleaned it off and blew air through all the fuel lines (disconnected at both ends)...
