    Outboard lifter was struggling.

Today I noticed one of my lifters seemed to be struggling so I took off the anode and saw a few metal seals on the shaft that were slowing the shaft down. Do I need to worry about these? Do I need to replace them? Pictures below. Boat is used in saltwater. Thanks.

    Gambrel roof- cubby

Our house is a 2 story, with a gambrel roof. What I want to do is cut a small cubby into the empty space in the gambrel roof “dead space” to create an area for the cat box. I believe there is dead space on the second floor between the interior wall and the exterior roof from the second floor to...

Mini split outdoor condenser rodent guard advice

Hello all. I have a wall mounted outdoor condenser for my Cooper hunter mini split unit. Mounted last year. Picture below as a reference. The mice got in, destroyed it and now I need to replace it. Not wanting to experience that ever again, I’m going to build a cage to go over it with easy to...

How to build a front middle cushion support

Hey everyone. Could use some creativity here. On my 2000 searay sundeck 210, there is a cushion that goes in the fron to make one continuous “bed”. My boat didn’t come with the support for the cushion, just the cushion. I can’t find a replacement online. So I built one. It last until this year...

Trailer bearings wear out ultra quickly.

My trailer bearings wear out very quickly. As in after driving a mile or so. I pack them and install them correctly, however in that Mile drive, the trailer has been dipped in salt water launching the boat at least 8 or so times. Is the grease getting washed out? Not sure what else to do. Thanks.

    Lower unit lifter. Solenoid?

I have a 2001 Searay sundeck 2210 inboard outboard MerCruiser 4.3 engine; everything runs fine. On the aft deck there is a hidden switch (under the air intake area) to raise or lower the lower unit; likely a trailing switch. I also have a switch to raise or lower the lower unit on the throttle...

Small engine replacement. LoveJoy shaft connector. How does it remove?

I am going to replace the engine on my wood splitter with a predator from HF. I found one video online on how to replace the love-joy but had two questions for this group. 1). When I unbolt the engine, will it just slide off the shaft that is connected to the pump? 2). It seems the love...

    Log splitter. Bushings versus bearings

Happy new year fellow boaters. I was gifted an old log splitter from someone that lives 20 minutes away and the tires are completely shot. New tires with bearings are $150 delivered. Harbor freight has 10” tires with bushings for $60 delivered. The axle is 1” diameter. I won’t be towing this...

Can you search DMV records for a particular car

I had a 1989 Honda Civic SI when I turned 16. Loved that car. Now that I’m over 50, I want to relive my childhood I guess lol. Trying to find one (or a CRX) and while they come up for sale on BaT from time to time, I want to search records for who still owns one and contact the owner. I see...

For $300, I can pick this up. Looks clean. Seller says "runs on starting fluid, needs a new carb which it comes with, old carb is broken", new plugs, battery, steering cables. No trailer. I am handy and like a winter project, but want to be aware of what I am getting myself into upfront...

Advice on trimming out this door

I had to install a new basement door. The old door was for a 2”x4” opening; the new door (I had it) is for a 2”x6” opening. I made it flush on the outside because I might finish the basement one far and figure I could frame and Sheetrock flush to the door. But for now I want to trim this out...

The boat. 2000 SeaRay sun deck with the mercruiser alpha one outdrive. I’ve recently noticed the buttons that raise or lower the outdrive do not work consistently. I have three buttons. Transducer plug won’t stay in back of unit

This is a Garmin Stryker plus 7sv. There are three plugs in the back. The power stays in well. The middle one ok. The last one for the transducer will not stay in at all. I tried to lightly close the four small female connectors inside the rubber boot to see if they helped but it didn’t. Garmin...

Andersen windows. Trying to get creative here.

Not exactly technical but... I have Andersen casement windows in my house and the window handle is made of an arm and a knob that gets pressed into the end. For some reason, I’m missing the knobs in about ten windows. Not a big deal but I want to fix them. The replacement sells for $7 online...
