to replace the transom or not?

Last one took me about 3 or 4 days to do, I could probably do this one in 7 or so, its just that ripping the old wood out is a PITA. I don't really mind grinding or glassing, its getting the old wood out from behind the stringers. Anyways, looks like its time to start cutting.

to replace the transom or not?

Hello, while doing an engine swap and engine room repaint on my boat, my attention was brought to some VERY shoddy workmanship on the factory layup. A lot of the area on the transom had a bunch of gelcoat just rolled onto the wood without any glass, and of course if has cracked and peeled. I of...

    Bravo 3 bearing shims

Well, I took some pictures just so everyone can make sure I am looking in the right place... Also I think this bearing race is shot

    Bravo 3 bearing shims

I will look closer... Serial number is worn off a while ago, but I do know it uses the later thickness washers and the four piece bearing without the spacer on the input shaft.

    Bravo 3 bearing shims

Hello everyone, Been rebuilding my bravo 3 upper after water got in and pitted some of the bearings. Luckily the gears survived it seems. Most of the bearings were easy to source, but the thrust bearing washers are confusing (parts 7 and 11) Mercruiser says that the bearing race thickness...

    350 mpi rebuild questions

Well, it seems like I am going down the rabbit hole of DIY. I have a partially burned ECM555 from an engine that caught fire. I cant really sell it because the plastic connector is a little charred, but it otherwise looked intact. I surely am not going to throw it out. You know what that...

    350 mpi rebuild questions

Well, I still havent got the block from the machine shop yet, but I am trying to figure out the closed cooling situation. Does anyone know the difference between the closed and open cooling version of the ECM? Any harm if I throw a RWC ECM on a FWC motor?

    350 mpi rebuild questions

Well at this point someone mentioned that a steel shim gasket will leak and I then said to hell with the quench. To make matters worse, most marine head gaskets are 0.039. I went ahead and got flattop pistons 1.548 high and that gives my 9.4 compression with a marine head gasket. If it ends up...

    Wake boat fuel supply issues

After some googling I figured out what the big fitting is, apparently its a tank vent valve (TVV). Also found this little diagram online and the setup I am dealing with might be sort of similar with the addition of two more vent lines and a return line from the engine. I think the two...

    Wake boat fuel supply issues

Hi everyone This thing is driving me nuts. its a 2015 gekko revo. The pump is sucking air in somewhere. I put a clear chunk of line from the tank pickup with a gauge and it pulled about 5 inches of vacuum and it looked like a bunch of air was coming in as well. I unscrewed the pickup from the...

    350 mpi rebuild questions

I wish I could... That is what I am trying to do. The thing is I am having a hard time finding pistons that replicate the stock ones. Either they are too short, the dish is too big or too small or they cost an arm and a leg.

    350 mpi rebuild questions

The piston situation is driving me nuts... Basically I have three options, neither of which I like but I have to pick one. Both set the compression to 9.4-9.5 Option 1 is to run a dished 1.55 compression height speed pro H815DCP. I like this option because I get 50 thou quench with this setup...

    350 mpi rebuild questions

Well the project is moving along. Not as fast as I want it to, but nonetheless moving along. After finally getting two good cores (was not easy) I am transitioning to the building stage. First issue I had with figuring out what connecting rods to use has been finally solved, I want the one on...

Thanks for the info. Regarding building the 6.2, it seems like the cams are different? I found three different part numbers for sbc cams: 811658 (I think I have these, used on 5.0 and 350) 866022T (Used only on 350) 862562T1 (Used only on 6.2) Does anyone know the difference in these cams...

    350 mpi rebuild questions

Hello, I was posting regarding my 5.0 saltwater motors, and it seems like rebuild time arrived too fast. One of my motors on my new to me boat is stuck solid. Time to build new ones! Since the old motors are saltwater 5.0 mpi's, I think I will use them for parts and junk the blocks. I will...

    saltwater 5.0 weak points

I apprecieate the insight from everyone, I think I will put a new intake and exhaust on my current 5.0 engines (Just checked yesterday and they turn freely, hooray!). Over the winter I might grab some wrecking yard blocks and build myself two 6.2 engines and sell the 5.0 ones to recoup some of...

    saltwater 5.0 weak points

I see new heads all over fb marketplace for peanuts, if I go to build a 5.7 or 6.2 I will grab a rust free wrecking yard motor to start off with, and for the $500 it will already have the correct heads.

    saltwater 5.0 weak points

This is what I was really thinking hard about. Should I budget to bore the wrecking yard motor, or is a hone, line hone and re ring usually good? Do I need a forged or just plain cast stroker crank? I guess I will have to buy the mercruiser cam and lifters though so I don't run into trouble with...

    saltwater 5.0 weak points

Thank you for the info, I am not really limited money wise, more time wise. I think I will slap a new intake and exhaust on the existing motors and build some new ones over the winter.
