Hello everyone,
Been rebuilding my bravo 3 upper after water got in and pitted some of the bearings. Luckily the gears survived it seems. Most of the bearings were easy to source, but the thrust bearing washers are confusing (parts 7 and 11)

Mercruiser says that the bearing race thickness should be stamped into the gear housing, but I see no such stamp. I measured the races and one comes in at 0.064. The other comes in at 0.067. I can get a 0.064 race, but the thickest mercruiser makes is a 0.066. Can I get away with the 66 or not? Any other manufacturer that makes this bearing race, like timken or skf?

Thanks

The stamped numbers ought to be in between the gear timing marks behind the rear cover... Older units the numbers were more visible than newer drive shaft housings... Might have to pull out a magnifying glass depending on the year of the drive, the model of the drive and/or serial number. Serial number handy?

Is the old shim/race thrust bearing damaged at all? they can be reused if good, etc..
Are they "colored" at all?

I will look closer... Serial number is worn off a while ago, but I do know it uses the later thickness washers and the four piece bearing without the spacer on the input shaft.

Gotcha, thinking back I do believe some were not marked so you'd have to go by measurements.

What year is the boat?
What number service manual are you using? I couldn't get a read from your past thread questions to know for sure. Manual number 11? #28? #28 supplement or #39?

Took some creative searching but I believe I finally found the size you're looking for... Mercury-Mercruiser 23-864596067 SHIM/RACE (.0665/.0674 Th
