'76 Holiday i/o 18' Fishing Rebuild (pic heavy!)

Always progress being made! We've been hitting a max of 3600 RPM which isn't *terrible* considering it's a mercruiser 120 which the manual says maxes out at 4100. We thought hey maybe we're getting a little bit of fuel restriction at the top end which is causing us to bog down on the throttle...

    Moving batteries to front

Boat: 1976 18' holiday w/ 1973 Mercruiser 120. We did our resto-mod and are a little stern heavy. I'd like to move the batteries under the dash, which would be a 12' run. According to the manual, a 12' run requires 00 wire. Now i'm safety conscious like the rest of you, but 00 for 10 seconds...

Reading spark plugs Mercruiser 120 (pics)

Hopefully this helps out other people! We've been maxing out 3500 rpm in our mercruiser 120 (1973). Boat is 18' holiday restored with 3/4" plywood and pink foam below the deck. Really not too much extra weight. Gas tank is 13 gallons in the stern and 2 batteries. Here's spark plug #3 And...

Mercruiser 120 rochester carb problem (w/ pics!)

hey guys, Boat ran fine 3 weeks ago, and now we have problems. So current symptom on boat is she won't rev past 2000 rpm in gear. She'll do 3000 no problem, in neutral, in the water. Compression on all cylinders between 100-110. Spark plugs are looking a little sooty. In the last 3 years...

'76 Holiday i/o 18' Fishing Rebuild (pic heavy!)

Boat is back after getting a boot for the canvas. We're going to try transporting the boat this way. The small hole was patched with HH-66 cement. Goal is to keep the canvas from rubbing on the windshield, or get some soft material between the two. Trim tab 5200 is now hard and the fishfinder...

'76 Holiday i/o 18' Fishing Rebuild (pic heavy!)

Last week when Wyatt took the boat out, things went bad. After putting the boat in gear and being underway for 2-3 minutes, he suddenly lost the ability to throttle back the engine. He actually couldn't move the throttle at all. So he killed the engine and spent the rest of the day with the...

'76 Holiday i/o 18' Fishing Rebuild (pic heavy!)

Back to working on the 'ol girl. Our fish finder started doing weird stuff so we took the plunge and got a lawrence with gps woop woop! We also threw on trim tabs, and boy is that a whooping. So the previous owners had drilled 18 small holes where the port trim tab now resides. Covering these...

    Smart tabs on Aluminum Hull

On our 18' 1976 starcraft restoration, we didn't take weight distribution into account and definitely sit stern heavy. Unless we hit a wake or wave just right the boat never gets out of the hole. Smart tabs appear they might help. Drilling through the aluminum into our epoxied transom doesn't...

14' Klamath duck hunting machine (pics heya!)

AAAAND we're onto the next boat! (Shameless plug for the first boat:) https://forums.iboats.com/forum/boat...uild-pic-heavy This boat is a 14' welded Klamath that my buddy bought many years ago for a goat and some cheese. A deal. He got a deal on it. Since we caught many many fish out of her on...

Seal between doghouse and transom cap

Hi friends, My buddy and I are in the process of rebuilding a '76 starcraft located here: https://forums.iboats.com/forum/boat-repair-and-restoration/boat-restoration-building-and-hull-repair/10343417-76-holiday-i-o-18-fishing-rebuild-pic-heavy We're stuck on how to seal the gap between the...

Rebuilding Alpha 1 Gen 1 Cost?

Well our MC-1 gimbal housing is finally showing enormous signs of corrosion. The bellows is barely covering the pitting. I believe we have two choices: 1) rebuild another MC-1 and hope our 42 year old sterndrive lasts. 2) Acquire a used alpha 1 with metal that's in good shape, strip it down...

'76 Holiday i/o 18' Fishing Rebuild (pic heavy!)

Aaaaaaaand the rain has begun. Going to be working in 3 day stints most likely. Having to cover / uncover the boat is going to suck, but I think we were spoiled having that marvelous tent and siding with house to protect. We're still working on the boat cover supports. -John

Pic from our trip to the Columbia! Even though the sterndrive wouldn't engage still had a great day on the river. Even if things don't go perfectly, you can't let it get you down :) Obligatory dual battery pic <3

Found the problem. The retaining screw had come undone. Not sure why or how, but we'll reinstall it and see if we can shift ok again! (most likely yeah). Might have been a step we missed when reassembling. The previous owners did some funky stuff I tell ya.... -John

    '76 Mercruiser shift cables

Yeah weird stuff going on... So the retaining screw that holds the interior cable fell out... Has anyone seen this before? Is it symptomatic of a bigger problem? -John We're looking at the manual now to determine how far in we're supposed to screw it.

6AM getting ready to haul out! 24 Crab! Trial by fire in Tillamook bay! Today we're heading to the Columbia to hopefully catch some Sturgeon. Today's the last day it's open to retention. Boat is doing well. We met up with our friend's at Fairview marine and got a new hydraulic ram...

From earlier though.... when expectations were high! ' Winching the trailer out Departing Kicker was definitely jumping all over the place when we were driving... does anyone strap their kicker down? or do you let it bounce? We've got the biggest 2 stroke bracket you could get from...

Will wait till 9 tonight to see if it's working... Thoughts and prayers <3 Who knew that a stupid hydraulic hose would be what kept us from splashing today... But you certainly don't want to be spraying hydraulic fluid into the waters. That's not ok
