The iboats forum moderators are excited to announce that at this time it appears the iboats forums posting pictures function is working once again. Though we cannot promise for how long, we're hoping for indefinitely.
I found on boats and construction equipment that the screens in the tanks would clog it was better to remove them and install a good filter on the suction side of the fuel pump. Do they still put the fine screens in the bottom of the gas tanks?
You want to protect your cylinder walls, valves and fuel system. If not going to use the boat for more then 3 months you want to fog it, put a weather resistant cover on it, remove the hull drain plug and disconnect the battery.
Always fog a carburetor inboard engine with Marvel Mystery oil...
If the starter is junk. the starter could have stuck in the flywheel or the ignition key failed in start position and starter stayed engaged.
Same thoughts as Fun Times and Nola Mike. It would explain the smoke especially on the starboard side.
Does not require another hole in the boat hull. Leaves the existing not leaking transducer alone. Transom mounted transducer are less expensive then “through hull transducer”. Easy to install and to remove.
It is important to properly seal any fasteners into transom to protect the transom core...
Simplest troubleshooting is to start with the obvious problems.
Fuel smell. Boat fires are a big risk.
Portable tank or built in tank? Fuel smell near tank or fuel vent? Overfilled gas tank, no room for fuel expansion with temperature increase?
Fuel leak while sitting?
Fuel leak while running...
I would drill a 1/4” hole at the lowest point you can see water behind the lens. (Keep the drill from going into far and best if the hole faces aft.) This will prevent water from freezing and splitting the lens.
If it’s fresh water you probably will not have any problems. This is a common...
With muffs they have to be fitted in the right spot. Often looks good but the engine isn’t getting enough water.
The old soft rubber muffs are better the newer plastic that don’t conform to the curved shape especially when it is cold. Sometimes while running the muffs slip. I have secured muff...
I would prioritize a engine and troubleshoot it as a individual problem.
But you need to focus and fix one O/B at a time.
In a orderly manner swap fuel systems, drain the carb, fresh fuel, run on a portable tank, compression test, follow troubleshooting chart in outboard engine manual……..
(I...
Water in fuel? Drain fuel filters into a glass jar and let it sit see if water separates out.
You could have a fine mesh screen on the pick up tube in the tank that gets clogged after running a while?
I work for a marine contractor most of the O/B problems were water in the fuel.
I liked to...
Some pickup tubes have fine screen on them. Water and trash builds up on these fine screens (also trash builds up at any restrictions at 90 degree elbows, fuel quick disconnects and etc).
When suction stops (when the engine is shut down) often trash and water on the screen is released back into...
There are U Tube videos and online info that show different methods to repair the transom. I have seen articles were the transom cap is removed, the rotted wood core is removed between the fiberglass skin a new piece is fitted and then a generous amount of expoy is used to bed and install the...
The fuel assembly (quick connects, primer bulb and fuel line) gray fuel line has a inner liner the degrades and breaks apart.
My fuel line inner liner came apart this summer. I replaced the fuel assembly, engine filter and external mounted spin on filter. The spin on filter did not look that...
Have you removed the spark plugs and rolled the engine over and slowly by hand. That will push the water out if it is hydraulically locked up.
The engine should roll over unless the gear shifter is in forward or reverse engaging the safety lock. Gear shifter and linkages need to be in neutral...
If you find your state unfriendly. Google trailer registration in Maine. There are companies that specialize in helping people register trailers in Maine.
Saw this and copied it from Downeast Boat Forum
"First thing, is the boat loaded the way it normally would be when you took these RPM readings (full fuel, gear, four fat guys, ect)? Or was it lightly loaded? Wide open throttle readings should always be taken under normal/worst case load.
