    "Fogging" new VP 4.3?

The correct procedure for this engine is Page No. 90. This is how the internals are protected.

    "Fogging" new VP 4.3?

If the motor is the exact save as the OP, a VP V6-250-O, yes. Page No. 90 of the Operator’s Manual for this motor (VP Publication No. 47712778).

    Second Happiest Day . . .

We have a 2018 Venture (VATB-12625) with electric over hydraulic disc brakes on all six and balanced radials on Chinesium aluminum rims. Tows like a dream. Stops even better. When setting it up, redrilled, lowered and pushed the main bunks to the widest to get CG down. Also changed the hardware...

4.3 GXI-F (2005) No spark or power at the coil. How do I check?

@alldodge, sorry cannot help timely. Recovering from multiple surgeries last week. Boy, these catheters sure suck.

Scan tool for new VP 4.3?

The engine control is sophisticated. You’ll be better served with Diacom longer term, post warranty. But, it really depends on the objective. No “code reader” tells the user what to do, but there’s a good bit more diagnostics and information with Diacom. Typically helpful when working with...

Winterizing new boat, new to me :)

If you’d post the serial number, we can direct you to the correct owners manual where this topic is covered. I don’t suggest following the suggestion received until all water has been drained from that side of the system and impeller removed unless you have a way to mechanically pump it through...

2007 Chaparral 256 ssx with 8.1 gxi bogs on acceleration

How many hours, what is maintenance history and is the motor/engine compartment clean (you can eat off of it) or is it a greasy, sooty, nasty mess?

2005 VP 5.0Gxi 2500-3000rpm max. Low pressure Pump 0 psi

Yes, the wrong gap can cause surging. Whether that’s the case here, I cannot say because I’ve never put 0.50 gap in that motor. Regarding wires, suggest checking for cracks and checks first, then resistance.

    Retirement in another Country

Lived in Mexico City for work and criss crossed the county. Its changed a lot and safety questionable for the last 10 years +. The retirement areas have traditionally been the Yucatán peninsula on the Gulf (around Merida is wonderful… but very hot in summer), the Pacific side starting a good bit...

2005 VP 5.0Gxi 2500-3000rpm max. Low pressure Pump 0 psi

Volvo Penta Publication No. 7744439, Quick Reference Guide . It’s a large file and I don’t know how to post. PM an email address and I’ll forward. I’ve not done so, but I’m guessing if searched on Yahoo or Google it can be found and downloaded. Regarding fluids, plugs and belts, created a...

    Airhead Boats

Something I’ve learned in what’s left of American manufacturing after competing against the Chinese for nearly 32 years now… you can have good; you can have cheap; but you can’t have good cheap. That beautiful $600 flatscreen TV at Best Buy is only $600 because labor is paid zilch and there’s...

    mercruiser 5.7 gs exhaust flappers

I’m unclear about what the OP is trying with his MM. While VP discontinued use at least 10+ years back, they insert into the y-pipe not riser. As to P/N 3853864, it’s obsolete and not superseded. It’s available though.

    Volvo duoprop

Thank you. Looks like contact on the face of the front nut (larger of the two props). A few initial matters to look at. (1) The nylon insert seems to have a gap between it and the I.D. based on the new picture of the smaller of the two props. It might be the picture though. So, please inspect...

2005 VP 5.0Gxi 2500-3000rpm max. Low pressure Pump 0 psi

Morning. What was installed is a standard plug with the proper 0.060-inch gap (R44LTS6). If my information is correct on the following plug, what is now installed is platinum (longer life than standard) with an improper 0.050-inch gap (RS12PYP). For the 5.0GXi series, the correct plug kit is...

    Volvo duoprop

Please check the part number that begins with 185… and repost (better, post a picture of that prop with the engraved markings visible). 185… is not correct. This should be an F6 set with straight splines on a DPS-A drive. No thrust washers on this series like the 280/290’s. Please post a picture...

General Info on VP Engines (V8-350-CE-D)

Correct, a 6.0L. Suggest asking probing/leading questions about how winterized and what oil has been used for oil changes. For example, of course you fogged it each Fall, correct? If the answer is yes, find out exactly which oil and research it. They’re not to be fogged. High soft metal oils...

    2014 mercruiser serial # 2a191194 dtc 321 & 322

I’m not a Mercury guy, but VP has similar codes. It’s reporting rich on that side, not a heater failure. Pull the plugs (on that side) and see if she’s running rich. If so, find that cause and save the $325 you’d spend on new O2 sensors.

General Info on VP Engines (V8-350-CE-D)

C = Catalyzed E = Electronic Vessel Control. You’ll want to know which version as features/benefits vary widely from initial iteration to current D = Revision/Version Edit: 350 is horsepower, not displacement B = Duo Prop Drive with Helical Splines 1 = Revision/Version

    Can't see my boat

Something I did on the triaxle (for the boat) since there was zero visibility of the six tires at night was add a diffuse down light (LED) on both sides. Played with it a good bit to get the angle and lens right to ensure no bleed-off to the sides that would distract those sharing the road...
