    Mounting trailer lights opinions wanted

I am going to upgrade trailer lights to LED. I am trying to weigh the pros and cons of two different mounting methods. This is one method of mounting ovals 6" Oval Mounting Bracket - Cequent Trailer Products 106873 - iboats and this is the other Trailer Steel 6" Oval Box Tail Light Guard...

Snapper rear rider and mulching blade

I've owned my rear engine Snapper since early summer of 2001. I got tired of throwing the grass on sidewalks, street and mulch areas and blowing the street and sidewalks so I broke down and bought the Ninjia mulching kit. It was a day or two late due to the holiday and all the rain has really...

    Mcculloch 4 hp motor

Re: Mcculloch 4 hp motor The 69 used a Walbro 131 carb (stamped on the carb). Those kits are available. I have a page that might help you but it exceeds the forum allowed by about 65KB. I am attaching a jpg image of that pdf page in the hopes it might help. I will email you the full pdf...

Most likely situations for skeg to hit pavement

I have a lightweight stick clamped to my transom and plan to go out and drive around a bit to see if it bottoms. As I have very limited experience towing with an OB mounted, my question is where or what situations are the most likely places to have problems? Speed bumps and aprons I can visualize.

Name of transom tie down strap.

I want to buy some short transom tie down straps. Never having owned any it is hard to tell how they work looking at just pictures. I would prefer something that works with the ease of an old style seat belt. I do not want a ratchet type strap; I have plenty of those.

    Replacing wheel bearings

I already know the correct answer I just need a confirmation. :) If you pulled the hubs on a new to you trailer and cleaned the baby poop out of the hubs and noted some minor pitting on the bearings would you replace them? The spindles and hubs look really good.

A few questions for the glassers

Pardon any misuse of terms. My epoxy experience to date is limited to treating a a dozen or so window sills. Those projects have held up extremely well. The previous owner of this boat attempted to create a storage area under the seat. I have refilled the area with tightly packed foam and was...

    Who knows steel channel?

Re: Who knows steel channel? I never seem to provide enough info. :) If I do this I am converting from rollers to bunks as I have become convinced they offer more support for the boat. So while the old roller arrangement did require 4" wide channel to connect to, the bunks will only rest...

    Who knows steel channel?

I am getting ready to rework and older trailer. It was constructed in the old style with twin center beams about a foot apart and the rollers in the rear were supported with a piece of steel channel bolted perpendicular to the main runners ( think T shaped). This was done using 3/16" 4 x 2...

What would you do with this seat?

I am hoping to create a thread to challenge your creative instincts. I am looking for opinions on what you would do if you bought a tinny that someone had modified like this. The like this included a piece of OSB for for the lid (removed and not shown). I initially thought that I would...

By pass speed switch to test trolling motor

I have a Minn Kota 40 that I am fairly sure has a dead motor but before I trash it I want to be sure. I have taken it apart and unplugged the wires to the rotary switch. Am I correct in assuming that jumping the battery wires to the two fattest wires going down the shaft while the two smaller...

    Share my misery

So I put an ad on Craigslist for the little boat and mentioned a couple of motors that could be added on. A guy came and wanted the boat but he also wanted one of the unprepared motors. We drug out the old 10hp 1956 Johnson and started cranking, unfortunately with the throttle in the stop...

    My comliments to admin

I want to compliment you about the ads. Most folks are running wide screen now and those ads on each side of the site pages surely allows you to serve them and hopefully pay the bills. They surely don't bother me like those bottom of the page pop-ups did. Heck, if you serve something I am...

Compression tester ~ does hose length matter?

I've read opinions both ways and let's keep this thread family friendly even though I started it with the tile. :) When one is checking compression on a small twin cylinder engine ( 4 HP) would the length of the connecting hose make a lot of difference? The check valve is located near the...

As I am getting 10 or so spammer emails a day and being assaulted here with Fords ads I sorta wish they would go broke and put an end to this nonsense.

Bunk length for a 14 foot jon boat?

After reading many threads here and other places I have more less decided to convert my roller trailer to bunks. My only questions for this thread is what is ideal length for the bunks for a 14' boat? Do you have a personal opinion of whether the boat bearing part should be wider than 1.5"...

Real world difference between a 2.5 and 3.5 outboard

I am in the market for a new small outboard for use on restricted lakes. Some spec reading leads me to believe the the 3.5 models are the same as the 2.5 with better fuel supply. 3.5 is mathematically about 40% more power but I am sure other factors enter into the equation. I know a lot of you...

Buying a fiberglass boat -- how to not get done?

In the morning I am going to look at my first fiberglass boat. I know to look for visible damage and to check the floors for solid feel. After that I am a babe in the woods and I don't want the big bad wolf to get me. What should I be looking at and checking? I will add that I know the boat...
